Emperor Tetras

Lovely fish, very easy to keep and one of the few egg layers that will breed in a community tank. They're also easy to sex; the males have a blue iris and the females have green.

Would a small shoal of these live happily with a siamese fighter in a small tank.

No, they're quite a large fish, and need at least a three, but preferably four, foot tank.

If you have an 18 gallon tank they will be fine, great community fish one of my favourites

Which tetras would you suggest to live with a fighter and cherry shrimps in a 2 foot planted aquarium.

I've only recently discovered these too, they are gorgeous! I would have definitely got some for my new tank :)

You need to be a bit careful with tetras as some of them can be a bit nippy. Green/false neons are nice, if your fighter's red or you could look at rasboras. Chilli rasboras, if your fighter is blue would look lovely.

Or glowlight danios? from how far away will you mostly be viewing the tank? some of the smaller fish, you need to be sat up close to appreciate them.

it is in my daughters bedroom so most of the time she is the other side of the room on her bed watching them as for the colour the fighter is a deep scarlet red

A nice shoal of green neons would look lovely then :) They always call them 'green' in the shops, but they're more blue really.

Thanks for the suggestions I will keep an eye out at my lfs and see if they have any.
