I am assuming you are talking about Labidochromis caeruleus? In that case, I did some research before I decied to post and it said that the minimum tank size for these is 50 gallons. Also more info is that they are shy and peaceful compared to other mbuna and would be considered semi aggressive in a community tank setting. Hmmmm...also shouldnt a tank for any type of mbuna be long instead of tall? Just thats what I have read and didnt know, maybe it will work..but my opinion is that any species of mbuna should not be kept with docile community fish. Hope this helps! Correct me if any of my info is wrong!

Found this in the forums almsot complete opposite of what you said

Care: This is a hardy and easily kept cichlid from the mbuna family, and an excellent choice for beginners and experienced aquarists alike. They are a very social fish that do well in groups of 3 or more. The minimum recommended tank size for these fish is 30 gallons. The aquarium should be decorated with a number of hiding spots including caves of various sizes. Sand substrate is appreciated by these fish, but is not necessary. Yellow Lab's are best kept in water with a PH of 7.5 or higher, at a temperature between 75 and 80. These cichlids make excellent tankmates for most mildly and moderately aggressive mbuna, aulonocara, and haplichromines from lake Malawi.

Maybe we should get this corrected and get more info on these guys asap.

Not trying to be a smart ass, and I know im not the biggest fish guru but im trying to learn..

Getting alot of different opinions seems to happen alot in the world of tropical fish.

I get atleast 2-3 completely different things from either fishforums.net,different sites, or pet stores.

Well first off you should realize that no one REALLY knows for sure what the ideal tank size is for these tanks. It's all opinions. I personally think your tank is too small not too mention you will need about 6 or more labs (again IMO) for them to be happy and by doing that you would be sending over the stocking limits. Plus, once grown, the labs would most likely take care of the neons and platys.

defently once there grown your neons and plattys will be lunch. If you get more mature yellow labs then you can get a couple of females if your looking to breed them , then your other fish might be in grave danger from there breeding aggression. if your looking to switch over to cichlids and get rid of the other fish then i would trade them in and get 6 or more juvies and as they start to mature you get rid off all but 1 male.

The article in the fish index on yellow labs contains some of the most accurate information i have seen on the species. 30 gal is a bare minimum but not along with community fish as tankmates IMO.

Also i missed the tall part. Your tank is 30 gallons by height you need it done by length. If your wanting a cichlid tank and you want them to be healthy and happy you really do need to get a bigger and longer tank. I'm not trying to bust your bubble here , just trying to save you from some headaches you will be heading for.
