Hi,
I have recently got an external Eheim pro 2222 but am unsure as to the Media. I currently have, from bottom to top Blue Sponge, White Ring Things, Brown Ball Things, White Sponge. Is all this required? I thought the white one would be a polisher so would get blocked quickly?

I have a 2222 and I think the ideal order is ceramic rings filling the bottom tray with the blue coarse sponge on top of them, handle holding it down. Next up in the upper tray I put ceramic gravel filling the tray with the white floss-like pad on top of this gravel and the pad being held in by the slide-down handle.

I don't remember exactly but I believe my ceramic rings are eheim ehfi substrat pro and I believe the ceramic gravel might have been called ehfi-mech (short for mechanical, although I'd guess its just as good for bio, as it will harbor a lot of bactieria!) The intake water goes down that tube that goes through each tray and then the water is filtered as it slowly comes back up through the volume of media. Much of the debris will already be trapped before it gets to that last white pad, so it won't get clogged up all that soon. I'm still using my original pad and just squeezing it out in tank water at the monthly cleanout. I may try out loose polyfloss in that position in the future, just trying to decide how I would keep it away from the impeller.

Hi,
What size tank do you run yours on and is it the only filter, How do you find the flow rate?

Regards
Mike
