Right, i have a 12 uk gal tank and the guy at my lfs reccomended an external filter as it would be better in the long run and keep my tank cleaner.

i have looked at 3/4 filters, these are as follows:

Eheim 2213 plus- FOR TANKS BETWEEN 250 AND 350 LITRES PUMPS 620 LITRES PER HOUR

Eheim ECCO 2232-For tanks around 100l (22 Gallons). Pumps around 400 l/h.

Fluval 105-TANKS UP TO 100L PUMPS 480 L/H

Fluval 205-FOR TANKS UP TO 200L PUMPS 680 L/H

All of these filters are in my money budget, i would like to nkow all of your opinions please and what your experiences are of them.
Thanks

I really like the Eheim 2232 Eco, I have a 2236 but they are easy to prime but just be gentle with the handle and move it slowly else it could break,
but its very silent and you can get an attachment for a surface skimmer

I'm only a newbie myself so chances are much more experienced advice will be along shortly but after doing some research and from advice received here and in our LFS we plumped for a Tetratec EX and i've got to say it has been superb for us. Much MUCH quieter than I was expecting. Check these out for yourself, www.rocketaquatics.co.uk has a video of one of these set up on their website. Hope this has been some help and hasn't ust confused you further! :good:

I've used both makes and they are equally as good. Tetratec is also a very good make by all accounts. Personally the Eheim wins out over the Fluval's for me because they don't use that horrible stiff plastic tubing which cant be replaced with clear tubing.

WOW, the TetraTec look quite good, but can you tell me, when the water is released back into the aquarium, does the can you hear the water trickle or can you completely submerge the water pipe into the water so you cannot hear anything?

Eheim every time, go for the classic, it is a better design than the Ecco.

I have had two fluvals, both had the seals give and dump water on the floor. You couldn't pay me enough to trust any of my tanks to a fluval cannsiter again.

I have the Eheim 2213+ on my 125L. Its brilliant, i cant hear a thing and its in my bedroom!

The filter sponges and media is in a basket that you just lift out

Tetratec is what i went for. i looked and it was that or a 205 fluval and To be honest the fluval looks cheap compared to the quality of the tetratec. The ehiem's are V.Good but more money and i here the pro range is the way to go but don't hold me to that....

zooplus have the ex600 for 45.99 but i would go with the larger 700 (4 quid more and you can throttle the output) as it will give you 4 compartments for media and if you get a larger tank will be ok for it

It will come with a 2 pin plug. they send a solid converter and is no problem. Simple to prime and if you want you can fit the spray bar and have it under the water line and it is silent or just breaking and its still quite.

I fine the filter near silent bar the minor sound that you need to be REALLY close to hear. I don't find it delicate either.

aww, im in trouble now, i have been persuaded 2 the tetratec but i think both sound quite good. I will just c wot is in my lfs and also ill seek my lfs workers opinions as they may know something.
thanks guys, uve all been a gr8 help.

Eheim 2213+ off fishfurfeaher.com was £39 i think! Get taps and filter media (balls, tubes, sponges)

Ours is completely submerged and makes no sound at all when returning water to the tank. We got ours for £59.99 from our LFS after they dropped their price £20 to match rocket aquatics. If you go for it i'd be stunned if you regretted it. Let us know what you go for and how you get on. :good:

Barney - why can't the horrible stiff plastic tubing be replaced?
