I'm thinking about buying a filter for my 80 litre quarantine tank

These are the two I am currently considering, there is nothing in the price.

Initially I would go with the Eheim on name alone. However, I have a Fluval FX5 in my main tank and I am really hapopy with this so the 3 Plus is also a contender .
Another advantage with the Eheim is it has a 3 year warranty.

Any advice or experiance with these filters would be appreciated.

Thanks
Michael

the fluval has a higher flow rate, but less media flexibility... i use a fluval 4 as an extra mechanical filter on my tank, and I'm happy with it - but if it was for the sole filter on a smaller tank, then i would use the eheim.

have a look at the new interpet internals - they are meant to be very good.

Wow, the Interpet PF 3 has a 800lph flow rate compared with only 550lph on the Eheim, but how do they compare for media flexability?

Thanks
Michael

im using the eheim aquaball 2212

i have to say i am really pleased with it so far, (got it just before xmas)

So far I have found this out about the 3 filters,

Interpet PF 3 - 800lph
fluval 4 - 700lph
Eheim 2210 - 550lph, 0.3l

I can't seem to find the media capacity of the first two, although the Interpet marketing documentation say "In addition they have a separate Biomedia chamber"
This sounds great as I am sure the others only have mechanical filtration.
Also, as I will only use this filter when I have sick fish, I can stop my Fluval FX5, pull out some live media and put it in the Interpet.

So far the Interpet is winning for me, Thanks JamieH for the recommendation.

Can anyone see why I should not buy the Interpet over the others?

Thanks
Michael

Hi I run 2 fluvals in my tank, a 3+ and the older 3 version. The 3+ is a great filter, easy maintenance and great flow by far a more superior model than the older version. The centre compartment on the 3+ is for fine filter wool to polish the water, mine is crystal clear, :good: also you can use it for carbon media if you need it. Also plenty of choice on ebay for replacement media.

Sorry, typo in my last post, it should read Fluval 3 not 4 as per the title.

Thanks for info on the 3 Plus, how many compartments has it got?

I'm ideally looking for a filter that has a fine filter and the ability for me to take bio media out of my Fluval FX 5 and put into my new smaller filter when required for immediate use.

Thanks
Michael

The fluval basically has one media compartment which holds 2 filter foams.

There is however space in the middle for additional media if required such as carbon or filter wool.

I've done it, I ordered the Interpet PF3.
I'll let you know what I think when I get it.
Got it off eBay only £22 inc P&P
