I've still in the process of trying to work out exactly what I'm going to buy. I just read somewhere that Eheim are the only company to post LPH figures based on the filter running with media in, rather than with media out which would obviously be faster as there is less resistance. I have no idea of knowing if that is true or not.

The 2224 has a quoted LPH less than the EX 1200 but now i'm wondering if those figures are accurate. Eheim say the 2224 is suitable for tanks up to 250l while Tetra say theirs is good for upto 500l.

The Eheim is only an extra £10 and I know that they are kind of considered the best of the bunch. But would running one on its own in a 240l tank be enough or am I going to have to drop another in once the stocking gets higher in 6 months?

I know Tetra has some issues in 2008-2009 with a design fault and lots of units leaking but they seemed to get that fixed while keeping the customers happy which is always good.

Am I going to eventually need two filters anyway regardless of which I get so the point is moot?

hi mate, i have a eheim 2217 and a ex1200 and love them both. the ex1200 is huge, holds loads of media, it feels quality and has all the trick bits like self prime and inlet and outlet valves, also the spray bar is 3 piece adjustable.

Ive got a ex 1200 on a 220L tank and its fine, mines the older model and I dont have a problem with leakage now. :good:

Ahhhhh... My school is growing nicely i see.

Never owned a Eheim filter, but i would say James has pretty much wrapped it up. :D
