Eheim 2213 Questions-Please Help!

 YES, the spraybar is still jetting out water during the water change. I call that the WATERFALL! It makes a happy nature sound through the house all during the water change and reminds me not to go off and get distracted from my task (as you all can tell I'm easily waylayed by curiosity, lol.) In fact, I have an external "inline" heater spliced into my filter outlet hose and movable lights on the top, so I don't really have to unplug anything to perform a water change, just get to it! (well, lately I've been placing my circulation powerhead pretty high up, so I have to remember to unplug him!) But, yes, you do need to be aware that the water line doesn't reach the intake grid.

What was you other question... well yes, it's the output hose/assembly where the priming suction needs to occur and it's most easily done by disconnecting the spraybar (the spraybar should have suction cups to still hold it in place independently, just slide it sideways in those clips a bit and the output pipe will be handy. I always leave it disconnected from the spraybar while I'm getting the last of the air bubbles out of the system, since it might need a re-prime during this process on rare occasions.

ps. Raptor, WoW, an extra step! Filtering some old tank water through floss. What do you use as your "filter funnel?" This process would certainly carry the advantage of giving your bacteria safe water in case you got distracted during the period between the cleaning and the filter refill (if left till back at the tank.)

yes please Raptorex

just to make sure, i give a bit of a suck on the outlet tube. this ensures there is no air in the tubes

Raptorrex, isn't the outlet pipe connected to the filter half of the hose tap? Do I suck on that. If it's once the hose tap is back on, then isn't the outlet then connected to the J pipe and then the spray bar?
I'm still a bit confused? It's a shame none of you live in South East Essex ;-)

I do mate, I'm in Grays if you know it? I run the exact same filter on my 180L.

I'd be more than willing to pop round and help you get set up if you'd like mate.

Let me know, :good:

Excellent. Cheers Rob. I still haven't got round to donig it yet, but have tomorrow morning off and am gonna give it a go then. Most of the hoses are cut and in place, just the priming I'm still a 'bit' confused about. I'll give you a shout if I need help. Thanks again.

Thanks for all your help guys...got the filter up and running no problem...quiet as a mouse and only a couple of mouthfuls of tank water

Couldn't have done it without all your help...defo the best aquarium forum around.

Cheers again

For anyone in the future who does a search for how to do this:
Firstly I followed the link supplied by Karin (thanks again), cut all the tubes to fit. Then I syphoned some water from the tank, filled the filter up to the top. I then connected all the taps together, put the Filter in it's end position then sucked the OUTPUT hose until I got a couple of mouthfus of water. Then I disconnected the spray bar, plugged in the filter, water came out of the tube where the spray bar should be...connected that and all good.
Hope this helps someone in the future.

well, i'm a bit lazy. so i just place a sheet of filter floss, over the top of the filter, and pour away. as the gunge builds up, i simply move the floss to give clean area.
I am assuming that, my actions will, keep more bacteria in the system. i have never done any research, but it makes sense. even on an internal, if i can remember that far back, i filtered the water used to clean the sponges and poured it back.

however i make no claims that it gives an advantage, or indeed makes any difference at all. though, clearly, i feel it does. and the logic is inescapable.
