Just bought this filter and its output pipe is totally different to my other external, the picture on the box shows the output pipe on the side of the glass and not at the back, which not only looks crap but would disturb the tank. And the way of connecting the two parts that make the output pipe is some kind of glue????? Thats not going to be very secure :look: Look at this photo in my link to see what I mean.

Are you sure the tube doesn't contain vaseline for sealing.

I used an excess piece of rubber tubing to connect the spray bar to the plastic u-bend bit. Only needed about 2"

There is vaseline, do you use that to connect the u-bend thing to the spray bar shown in the picture, but why don't you get connectors, just joining them up with vaseline cant be very secure, and the u-bend doesn't sit straight on the spray bar. On my other external (not ehiem) it came with bends and all kinds, and ehiem is supposed to be the best. Are you saying just cut some excess pipe off and use it as a bend so I can put it on the back instead of the sides?? Thanks for the help :shifty:

The petroleum jelly-like stuff is not for attaching hoses. It's for the seals on the top and hose connectors on the case of the filter. If you use the seal lube for the hoses they will come apart real easy.

Like benzonar said, use a piece of hose to connect them. If it's difficult to get them to go in the hose, heat the hose, hot water works, I use a bic lighter.

How come it doesn't come with the bends and turn connectors? Can you buy them?

If I used a spare piece of hose then it'll have to b elike 5 inches or more because anything under would bend and slow down water flow.

If you need the outlet going a different way then chop the rigid green pipe again and then rejoin it with bits of hose so it's pointing in the right direction, this is what i recently did to my Eheim 2080 pro 3 set up.

you can get corner pieces but most fish shops probable shouldn't stocl them so you would need to order them in, although you can jus use bog standard pond hose fittings, you would want to ask for 3/4" parts.

my understanding is that the petroleum jelly-like stuff is for the primer, I have both 2028 and a XP3 the XP3 manual suggests the jelly is for the primer - (the thing you push down) apprantly the primer can become sluggish after time

hope it helps

I got it with my 2224. It has no primer, but I can see how it would be useful for that.

I just bought the same pump, and as mentioned in the post I cut pipes to get the spray bar to fit in my tank, I had to do the same with my other Ehiem to, its a bit of a pain but once its done, it done! well with the hassle compared to old my Fluval 404 which constaintly broke down and leaked every 3 months!!! costing me a small fortune in spares....
