i have cichlids and have been so far unable to identify them...seeing as i don't have a camera i can't get a picture of them for identification help..... but i was jsut wondering how reliable egg spots are for sexing cichlids? because as i have read so far the aceptable ratio is more females to males, which is understanable i am jsut thinking that i have to many males.... can anyone set the record straight?

Egg spots are not very reliable for sex determination. Usually, the most dominant male features the most distinct egg spot(s) but even this doesn't always happen. My 3 inch P Acei features near identical egg spots except for the dominant one which has 2 spots instead of one, but I am pretty sure I have more than one male in the tank.

Either, you need to vent, or you need wait until they show breeding behaviors if you want a full-proof sexing methods...
