OMG. I was on the phone and staring at my 4ft. And i jumped, thinking I saw a spider. I hate them btw :p So I checked myself, told myself I was being stupid... looked again....omg! It WAS a large spider. Some of my fish were pecking at it. It looked like it was crawling though this could be the current..... can spiders live underwater for any period of time? I can't find it now.... and no way can I fish it out... gonna have to get my husband to look for it. It was at the bottom of the tank, is it at all possible it could have got out again?

I wouldn't worry, chances are excellent that it either drowned or was (happily) eaten by your fish.

I hate spiders too, my fish love them though. All spiders and flies in my house go straight into the tank. Plenty protein in them.

:)

Reminds me of when I was having a bath the other night - lying in the bath, I could hear a fly buzzing around in the next room (where my tanks are). Somehow it got inside the hood, because it suddenly sounded more echoey, and a little frantic.

It was like...

Bzzzt...bzzzt bzzt bzzzzt...bzt bzzzt bzzzzzzzzzzzzt.....bzzzzz..bzzt bzt

*splash*
*silence*

Not sure who got it, my bet is on the angel.

Bugs never last long enough to make it into the tanks in my house, the cats always get them first!

im with you on the spiders, cant stand them. in fact i was just wonder if i could feed them to my fish... even the rare big one that comes around occasionally. im now assuming its safe. i was actually concerned that one might be so big it could bite a fish and harm it as it is being nipped at and eaten. i wouldnt want any of my poor little fishies to get hurt.... specially by food!!! at any rate you could always let some ghost geckos loose in your house, i used to read in my old reptile magazines about doing that for bug control, occasionally a gecko would make a guest appearance on the counter or the side of the fridge but other than that they pretty much stayed out of sight and devoured any bugs they came across.

ya, I was gonna mention that species of spider... but the chances that is living in your house..... remote at best.... but I guess you could think of some far-fetched story where a plant grower used outside ponds to use the sun to grow their plants and one of these guys was living in the pond and somehow got packed in with the plant and survived all the shipping and moving to the lfs and then to your home... like I said far-fetched... so prob a daddy-long-legs or somethign fell into the tank

Ox :good:

Not a daddy long legs... they don't bother me much. This was a full on spider with nasty legs, lol. We get a lot of this sort of spider where I live - they are harmless but their legs freak me out! Plus they are brown, not black.... eurgh.

close the door and go on hols for a week, its bound to be gone when you get back.... im like this with moths, and i would sooner go to the moon than have to deal with it... men have there uses lol
