A bag of Purigen would work wonders on the clarity of your water.

Buy a bag, you wont regret it

Know what, after reading some reviews on this I think I am going to try it. How long does it last and how do you rejuvenate it?

Well I purchased 500ml container of it and I put a 125ml in each of my filters, after around 3-4 months use it comes out looking like this;

I soak it in plain bleach (not the scented stuff) for 48 hours, give it a stir round a few times a day;

Then rinse it with tap water lots of times to get all the dirty bleach away, then the most important part is you need to soak it in soft water (I use plain RO water) with around 20-30ml of Seachem Prime for a couple of days, then I rinse it again a few times with more RO water and let it dry out.

I just rotate 4 bags worth around so I always have so clean purigen waiting to go in the next time. It is a long process but it saves having to buy a new batch and if you do it right it turns out like new. The worst part about it is using so much prime to get rid all the bleach.

Thanx for that. By plain bleach you mean the unscented stuff you use on bathrooms?
Wouldnt this be harmful to fish filter and plants? I know your giving it a good rinse but still...
Hmmm seems alot of trouble. I aint got a RO unit and certainly dont want to buy one just for that.
On second thoughts lol

Yeah the unscented stuff, it is fine and I have recharged my Purigen lots of times and never had any problems.
Just remember that bleach is just Chlorine so after rinsing it out the prime deals with anything left over.

And you should be able to buy RO water from your LFS for cheap, but I understand if you cant be bothered with the recharging process, but it's not that difficult.

No it dont sound difficult, it's just buying RO water, finding somewhere to store it and finding somewhere to put the tubs of purigen and bleech where my little girl wont find it and somewhere that wont give me an earache from my missus. Lol
Thanx for explaining it tho.

Think im going to change my "cheap filter" to a Allpondsolution 2000EF.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/310482469238?var=610146276726&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
More powerful moter, bigger canister and slightly better make so hopefully more reliable than a cheap chinese made external.
Plus im goin to deliever the Co2 mixed water via a spray bar which will be pointing down towards my 3200lph powerhead.
Should be putting this order in for everything in 2 - 3 weeks when cash flow picks up again.
Lost lots of work due to this weather

Cant wait to get started

I have the APS 1400 with the UV - which is not on most of the time but has been useful occasionally if something is not quite right in the tank.  It is in my bedroom and actually very quiet!  It came second-hand with the large tank, and have been amazed at the amount of muck I found in there.  When I got it, the handles that lock the lid down were slightly broken, I think it is quite easy to do unfortunately, as everything else looked pristine.  Anyway, I was advised that it would work OK but the first time I switched it on water came gushing out of the seal.  It was going to be £20 to replace the fittings, so I got a ratchet strap for £2.50 locally and now use that to keep it sealed - works a treat :)  Just thought I would share my experience with this filter, so should you have the same issue at some point, you can save yourself the ££'s.  Also, be aware that APS are hard to get hold of should you need them for anything!

Looking forward to your progression too ;)

Well its begun:)
Iv started ordering the parts I need for my new co2 prodject.
Iv ordered my allpondsolution filter which will serve as a reactor. I ended up going with the 1400ef (non uv) rather than the 2000ef.
Simply because the hose sizes with the 1400ef will fit inline diffusers and reactors which gives me more flexability in the future.
The hoses with the 2000ef are jus that little bit too wide.
Iv also ordered a fluval bubble counter, rather than one that will sit on the reg.
Iv ordered 3 drop checkers from HK for £7 BARGIN
And iv ordered my Inline atomizerfrom HK. (Not sure if this will work yet but for £15 its worth a go)

Next week will be my reg, tubing, non return valves and bio balls.

Getting there.

Well as you can see my Allpondsolution 1400EF external turned up, and i hafta say im very impressed with it considering how much i paid for it.
Got it all hooked up and running already, had to make sure it worked
yahoo.gif

No leaks so far and it was a lot easier to prime than i was expecting. The last external i had to prime was a Fluval 405 which was a nightmare in comparisons.
Luckly my main filter which is a FX5 primes itself
tongue2.gif

Only thing i would say about the 1400EF is the flow isnt that stong. But i suppose it is using a spraybar and to be honest i think its going to be perfect for what im using it for

Getting there, wont be long now

Looks like a good shopping list to me, the only thing I would do is change the 2KG Fire extinguisher for a 5KG Fire extinguisher.

Will save you £££ in the long run, as long as it fits in your cabinet, mine only just fits but on a 200l tank it should last me about a year before requiring a refill.

Out of interest, what reg is that? Where did you get it from and how much? Also did it come with solenoid and needle valve?

Hello,

I purchased this reg/sol off of Ebay from a german seller, They dont seem to be on Ebay anymore! and if I remember corectly they were around £50-£60 posted. It is much better quality over my other reg and its nice to have the option of adjusting the pressure, and the needle valve is much easier to use.

My other reg works just fine but does not allow adjustment to the presure, and the needle valve is very sensitive.

Hello

Just another quick update.
Like i said before the allpondsolution1400ef filter is now up and running with no media inside just lots and lots of bioball.
My Inline UP Atomizer turned up today from HK which im very pleased about as i was expecting it to take weeks to arrive.
Heres a quick peek under the tank (Left side)

Here is the Inline Atomizer securely in place. However i ended up using Jubilee clips as the securing nuts where just far to tight to re-attach with the hose in place.
I was worries that excessive force would break it. May not look that pretty but does the job and will be easier to remove this way in the future.

Here is a quick shot of under the tank in the right side cupboard, at the moment i only have my FX5 in there but this is where the 5KG FE will be placed too.
So kinda think of this as the before shot

Lastly, i have also ordered my Regulator now. I didnt end up going for the original one in my shopping list, i decided to spend a little more on what i thought was a slightly better quality Reg.
Plus this Reg is fully adjustable which is what i really wanted tbh. Let me know what you think or if you have it. I should have it in the day or 2

Hey just checking out your profile. You have a 60Gallon low tech heavily planted eh?? Do you have a journal?

Looking good, the jubilee clips will be fine but I am surprised that you could not use the connectors that are fitted to the atomizer.

What I usually do when fitting pipes to this sort of connector is dip the end of the pipe in a cup of boiled water, then quickly fit the pipe over the connector and then turn the connector, makes it a lot easier as the pipe is nice and supple.

Cant wait to see you tank in a few weeks once the Co2 has been running, make sure you add lots of pictures
