you would be hard pushed to find a captive oscar that grows to 12-14 inches, but thats besides the point, hopefully someone ( a memeber) with a consicence will buy them and give them a better life, its just sheer ignorance/stupidity that puts 2 full grown oscars in a 3ft tank :(
i totally agree with the first post.. TWAT!!

EDIT.. AFTER LOOKING AT IT, I RECKON HES HAS RECENTLY BOUGHT THEM, REAlISED HES MADE A MISTAKE AND NOW TRYING TO SHIFT THEM ON.
the tank certainly isnt crampped to the max-tho isnt big enough, but they havent grown in there if they had they would be stunted for sure

Problem is the ridiculous amount he's asking for them, he would do better to advertise as 'free to good home' and possibly request a small donation. You could say atleast he's realised his tank isn't big enough and is trying to rehome them, better than someone keeping in that tank forever - but I agree that they need more than 170 litres, much more.

I have had Oscars get bigger that 12 inches and nelly also on this site has Oscars that are 12inches might be bigger, he says they are 12inches, DAMN that was hard to find, but thats being silly saying you would be hard pushed to get/find an Oscar over or at 12inches, you must of only just started out keeping and looking after them.

That just silly of you to think that Shelaghfishface is a newbie with Oscars. She has massive, beautiful Oscars.

Oscars get 12 - 14inches and at 8years old if they was not this big then they was stunted, you may say a 55 is the minimum tank to keep an Oscar in buit is it not cruel to keep a fish in a tank when the fish gets 14inches and the tank is only 12 inches wide?

I dont think this is personal oppinion I think this is doing your part as a fish keeper and keeping them in a tank where they can as least turn around, no?

That is assuming that the fish made it to that size. The Oscar was 10 inches, maybe 11 at the most . He didnt seem to have any problem turning around in the tank. He did frequent ( 2 times weekly 25 percent w/c) and over filter. He had a sump under the tank that did 300 gallons per hour ( which was surprising because he wasnt completely fish knowledgeable). The oscar always seemed perfectly happy. Swimming up the the front of the tank begging for food, re-arranging the tank ornaments, following you as you walk by. I dont see anything wrong keeping a Oscar in a 55g tank. It may be a little cramped, but it wont be detrimental to his health.

For some-one to say something like this about Oscars

you would be hard pushed to find a captive oscar that grows to 12-14 inches

ether has only just started on them or has no idea.

I bet there is a few ppl that have had Oscars in the right sized tank that are 12inches or bigger!

and as for the Oscar "YOU" are talking about........ well I can say nowt about that as I have not seen it know about it or any other but im not going to start recommending a 55 for an Oscar, advertising a 11inch fish living in a 12wide tank is (only IMO) no something to bost about.

Well you know what, if somebody buys a 12" fish from ebay and dosent have a big enough tank that is their problem not the sellers. I would hope that somebody buying an Oscar does more research than just reading the auction description.

I cant read you mind over the net, what you type is what I read and thats it, no need for name calling now is there, Oscars can get 12inches and I have seen them bigger than that.

you have back track on what you say as YOU no your wrong, there is nowt for me to getover im giving the CORRECT info on something I no is FACT not just dribbling on.

Dont feel bad we all are on hear to learn, Oscar size is you thing for 2day .lol...

And name calling over the internet good one :good:

^ Agreed.

Bolty: I was not BOASTING about the Oscar, i was simply saything a a Oscar can live a perfectly healthy and normal life in a 55g tank.

The Oscar can reach 16 in + (2LB +) in size and weight. However, fish normally only reach their maximum size in the wild. An average sized for an Oscar in captivity is probably between 9 and 11 inches. I've often read reports of people having 15 inch long Oscars, I'm a little dubious about these claims and would have to see it before I would believe it.

taken from oscarslovers.com

and to add, ive seen a of oscars, none of them being over 12 inches, which nellys are, maybe i just havent seen ehough tho eh?

the only problem i see here is that some people think oscars turn around rigidly like an articulated lorry,

infact all fish i have ever kept have had the ability to bend their bodies to turn around.....have u never seen a fish in a plant pot?

the plant pots are not normally wider than the fish are long...but somehow you dont see tanks full of pots with fish stuck in them.

an oscar of 12" long would not necessarily need 12" wide tank to turn around...... unless it had a mobility scooter, like my gran.

HOWEVER, im not giving this as a get out clause for keeping O's in smaller tanks as i think its cruel..

but the 'turning around' thing bugs me somewhat.

I just had a mental picture of an Oscar doing a 3 point turn, beeping when reversing of course!

But seriously, I would want an oscar tank to be a MINIMUM of 18" front to back
