Dwarf Hamsters

Then make toys. Just go on google and type home mad ehamster toys. It is much cheaper and if they ruin it they are cheap to replace. You shouldn't leave your hams in their run-around-balls for more then 1/2 an hour as they can become dehydrated.

btw you have an ablino russian campbell dwarf(the white one) and a dilute black russian campbell dwraf hamsters (the dark one).

Nice. They're names are so fancy. How come heather can keep two in the same cage? Is it because their both female?

Yes she is able to keep them safely. We aren't playing favourites. it is very unhealthy to keep to different sex hamsters together. You will kill the female by doing so.

hehe. Well their insticts tell them that they should breed. but keeping them together they will have way to many babies and the mommy can get sick, hurt and stressed.

Oh no no no, they didnt sell me the pair  I chose to get a male and a female. They have them seperated by sex at the store. I find that the aquatics section of the store is crap but the rest is pretty good. I was just testing it out for that hour because I forgot if it was male+male=Fight or Female+Female=Fight. The LPS lady told me that if I get 2females they would fight. The reason I got the male was because all the females were albinos. He was all alone so I had to get him

they still sold you a male and a female at the same time without saying anything about keeping them separated. that's just as bad as selling them as a set.

you do have them separated now, don't you? and don't be shocked if she has a litter in a few weeks, either.

yeah I agree with grahamsokel the dark one looks quite big to be a dwarf..

Here is my two roborovski dwarfs..They are tiny

Your hamsters are lovely  xx
awwww, your roborovski hamsters are soooo cute  i love the little food dish and them eating.awwww
i have 2 dwarf roborovski, they are cute too, both male, but after a week keeping them together, they were fighting and i had to seperate.both were brothers that had lived together untill then
to be honest, you really should have fully researched before any animal was bought.but in your defence, atleast you came to us for help.the black and albino probally didnt get on as they were different litters and maybe different breeds (more than one typr of dwarf) the best chance of happiness between 2 dwarves is if they are brother/sister.

I guess it could just be the Picture but are you sure the dark one is a Dwarf ?It looks more the shape of a syrian to me
and yes you definatly need to do something about the bedding

That's a dwarf hamster not a syrian.

Yeah, they've only been in the same cage together for one hour. Then I seperated them because I didn't want to take any chances of the male killing the female. I actually bought a new cage because the tank that the female was too big and looked like crap. I actually did research before hand. This thread started as "What is my male doing to my female" and it morphed into something else  I guess threads tend to do that. Anywho, thanks for the info on keeping them. Hopefully, the female isn't preggy. I doubt she is because they didn't really do that much. Just ate the food that was in the cage and then I seperated them. :look:

the best chance of happiness between 2 dwarves is if they are brother/sister.

 please clarify this statement. it sounds like you're advocating keeping mixed-sex pairs for non-breeding purposes.
sorry i wasnt clear, i meant the best chance of having sucess in keeping 2 dwarves together is getting 2 brothers, OR 2 sisters from the same litter, even for breeding purposes, i would never get a brother and sister. inbreds are cruel in my opinion

Yesterday one of my hamsters bit me. I figured out why though, I was eating sunflower seeds before hand and I forgot to wash my hands. I guess the hamster smelled it and tried eating my fingers. . I'll get more pictures soon! :good:

Also, can anyone help me find a way to stop the noise coming from my exercise wheel? Since the hamsters are nocturnal they do tend to run a lot in the night and it sounds like construction workers. For now, I'm laying them on the floor and then putting them back up in the day.
