I just bought 2 dwarf hamsters one male and one female. I'm hoping they wont fight but just now I saw them doing something odd. The male dwarf was either biting or smelling the girl hamsters wee wee area  . While he was doing that she had her eyes closed and was making squeeky noises. Is this a sign of aggression? :shout:

You're 17 years old. Not 7
Did you do no research whatsoever? Clearly not.

Go away and do 5 minutes of research on the basic care of the animals that you are committing to for a couple of years - and come back again. This really isn't rocket science

Get them aprt NOW! It is unhealthy to breed 2 siblings they can cause death to the mother and the babies. If the babies/mother survives the babies will likely have deformities and be unhealthy for awhile.

www.hamsterhideout.com got there and research please.

Dwarf hamsters are naturally pretty solitary. They usually fight with any new or unfamiliar hamster. But you have a female and a male so 99% chance they are doing the nasty. Your parents have talked to you about the birds and the bees right? Cuz you really shouldn't mix hamsters of different sexes.

kk dont get your panties in a bunch guys. They were only together for an hour and I seperated them using my empty 10gallon tank. I'm going to return the male because hes a fiesty little thing that likes to bite. And i'll keep the female. Thanks for your advice I guess

Actually scratch that. He will not be going back to the store since hes too cute  I thought he was crazy because he kept biting me when I tried handling him (I know your supposed to wait a little while until he settles in but I couldnt resist. Hes very playful and extremely kind when you dont spook the crap out of him.

I'll post pics ASAP.

I think we have just right to do so. I'm glad you separated them - however - it's not that you haven't been here on TFF long enough to not see how the gospel is "research, research, research". So why didn't you extend that to a pair of mammals? And cause them undue stress? It shouldn't be up to us to give you advice after you've purchased an animal - when you have absolutely no clue about them to start with. I sincerely hope you've done that now - and learnt that you will have to research the pets you intend to keep, before you buy them.

I've owned dwarf hamsters before so I'm not entirely knew to them. I was just asking what they were doing and wasn't needing advice that isn't already posted on the internet. But thanks for the understanding. Anyways, I will be posting some pictures of my sexy beasts tommorow.

I guess it could just be the Picture but are you sure the dark one is a Dwarf ?It looks more the shape of a syrian to me
and yes you definatly need to do something about the bedding

yeah I agree with grahamsokel the dark one looks quite big to be a dwarf..

Here is my two roborovski dwarfs..They are tiny

Your hamsters are lovely  xx

Nope the dilute black (dark one) is definatly a dwarf hamster just look at its face.

I hope you have sepearted them completly. Don't forget a 10 gallon is to small for dwarf hamsters they need tonnes of space to run.

Yeah i think its a black russian dwarf? I do let them run around in this ball thing. They go around the house and then come back when I whistle. They get fed 3sunflower seeds a day with a bowl of this mix thingy. Water bottle is changed daily and bedding is changed weekly. Im still stocking on toys so they wont be able to get any more toys other than the ball and wheel thing for another week.
