I had this great idea on a little tunnel I was going to make for my fishes! Well I got everything and found some pots i was going to use but they looked a little dusty. So I washed them really really good but i used a little bit of Dawn soap :X . I have made my tunnel and im just putting finishing touches on it now and it looks really nice if I do say so myself :D . But on one of my other posts someone said I should wash them and NOT USE SOAP!!! . I really want to put the tunnel in the tank because it looks really nice and I think the fish will like it!!!

Would the Dawn hurt them really bad? I'm so proud of my diy skills I dont want to not use the tunnel so im at a delema! -_-

HELP!!! :S

wash them several more times with out soap. and leave them out to dry for a day or so and if there is any soap residue left it should dissappear

Hi lilhurleybunny :)

Dawn is a liquid dish washing detergent, for people who are not familiar with it.

You can use your pots. Just make very sure that they are very, very well rinsed off. You want to be sure that all possible soap residue is removed. Unless they have a porous surface that could trap soap particles, it will be as good as new. :D

By the way, how are you doing with your siphoning?

If the pot is plastic it will rinse off It will get rinsed off or get trapped in glue... so it should be ok. Dawn isnt very sticky :)

rinse well young grasshopper.

if it isnt plastic... of course your welcome to give it a go... but 10$ says you make the seccond tunnle better and faster the seccond time. No need to rush things :)

Or you could rinse it with boiling water  that's what i do when i put decorations on my tank. Just my 2 cents :D

boiling is a great idea and something else you might do is go to a health food store or health food section and get environmentaly friendly soap and wash the dawn off with that. and also let it sit in water for a week before you put it with the fish. oh and dawn will stick to stuff for quite a while it leaves a thin resedue that will not rinse or evaporate off.

Alright thanks guys!! The plastic I used was very slick and it doesnt look like it has any pores or anything the soap could have gotten caught in. I rinsed it very very well and let it sit out to dry all morning so i think from what you guys have said i may be good to go!!

I finished putting the finishing touches on my cave and im going to put it in tommarow night since i need to let it cure. I'm going to put the picture in the DIY section of the forum too but i fgured you guys might like to see my finished creation :D .

I hope the picture showed up. Anyway, if it did, as you can see i covered most of the top with gravel so not much of the pot is showing..just underneath so the soap doesnt have much of a fighting chance getting into to water  . I kinda like my cave..I used the same color gravel as my gravel in the tank so everything should blend in good. I think Ferris and Temp will like it  .

nice .. made the same for my cichlids... they like the corny houses better though... go figure.
