I've been dosing Bob the Betta with MAracyn 1 and 2 for 5 days to treat dropsy. He is still swollen up and pineconing, but is swimming a little tho' mostly hanging out in his plant. He ate one and a half bloodworms yesterday, with a fair amount of enthusiasm. I've added some aquariam salt and some blackwater extract to his water. I'm expecting some colloidal silver to arrive by post within the next 5 days or so. My question is:

1) Should I do a 50% water change (he is in a 12 gallon cycled tank with air driven sponge filter) and start the Maracyn 1 and 2 again, then dose the colloidal silver when it arrives (I'm gonna take some too!!),
or
2) Should I do smaller water changes daily and just wait for the silver to turn up and hope he lasts that long?
3) Is there anything else I could be doing?

Thanks for any advice

Hi Saxolady04
I got in a load of American medications - if anyone in the UK needs some I have supplies of MAracyn 1 and 2, Maroxy, Jungle Tank Buddies Parasite clear (internal plus external parasites) plus Jungle anti internal parasite food. I got extras so if you're desperate let me know.

thanks so much sarah if i need some i will pm you good luck with bob

Its a good sign that bob is eating despite being so ill. I would reccomend doing a water change (I think Maracyn says you have to do at least a 25% water change before repeating doses) and then keep doing exactly what you've been doing (salt, elevated temp, medicines, etc.). As a word of caution though, in his state a water change could be VERY stressful. Perhaps dechlorinate the water and let it sit overnight to make extra sure nothing is harmful in it, put Bob in a smaller container so you can float him (so he's not having the temp of the water around him change suddenly), and once the new water is added and he's acclimated to the temp through the cup, slowly add the new water to his cup and dump out the old over the course of an hour or so just like you might with a new betta in a new tank. Unless being in a cup and being floated stresses him out, in which case just do what he's used to.
You seem to be doing all the right things so I'm sure you'll know what to do.
