I'll try to be clear and divide my questions up. Any help is appreciated a million percent!

1) Is Dropsy due to a specific type of virus/bacteria, or is it a general term used loosely for many types w/the same symptoms??

2) Can you remove it from a tank?

stuck in San Diego fires). He obviously did a poor job, as many of my babies are shredded and nipped and a few are gone! BUT my favorite female was at the bottom of the tank with her abdomen ripped/burst open.

A fish had dropsy in my tank months ago...did the others get hungry and cannabolize her or could it be dropsy back?

4) The reason I fear dropsy is because it existed in the tank prior, all of my babies and remaining female seem bloated, or a bit heavy in the abdomen. This is a dropsy trait, no? They are also spoiled and well-fed (maybe just overweight?)

They eat well and swim about. The only un-bulbous fish is my male who survived the first exposure. He seems completely sleek and normal.

If you can help me by putting my fears to rest or confirming any suspicions, I am eternally grateful! Claire

That was a great site, thank you so much!

I am pretty sure I have a Dropsy filled tank. It is hard to figure, as my h20 tests are good...but I did screw up and buy a first guppy from a pet store, not a good breeder or fish store...she must have brought it.

The remaining question I have is:

If any fish survie, are they carriers of a bacteria that can spred to non-resistant fish? Or are they free and clear and symptom free due to anibodies? Thanks!
