does anyone know if you can do drop shipping with tropical fish ? I want to sell but have not room to store at my home? If not does anyone have any suggestions ?

thanks
matt

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by drop shipping. If you mean taking orders for fish you don't own and then buying them from another place and having them shipped to your customer, I'm sure it can be done but don't see how you could possibly make enough money at it to make it worthwhile. Also, since the packaging would be from the source you are getting them from, you buyers may be a little taken aback by the fact that they could have gotten them there on their own.

true true. I am not sure how i can breed the fish that i need. I already have two fish tanks and a fry tank. But obviously a i am not going to be able to store as many as i need :S

anyone got any suggestions of how i can sort out my problem ? Anyone use garden sheds converted to hold a few tanks before? Does it work ?

thanks
matt

Out buildings can be converted to become fish rooms but it is usually only done by people who want more fish and have no more room inside. As a commercial venture I would think that the cost of insulating and heating an outbuilding would be prohibitive as compared to the small income that you could derive from such a building. It is one of the main reasons that true commercial fish farming is done in places where the weather is warm enough that very little heating is required and even outdoor ponds can be used to rear the fish. Only very expensive, high priced fish can justify a small scale breeder's efforts in other places.

o right. what i think i am gonna do for the moment is make my website as i was going to and see how i go. it is more of a hobby than trying to get rich to be honest. i just dont have the room to keep all the fry i keep getting !

I have been researching and i still havent found anywere! not sure if i am looking in the right place!

Also would anyone be interested in selling their fry on my website? Sort of ebay as such for fish

Best bet is to find some local breeders, with you acting as a broker more or less. Clubs usually have breeders; http://fins.actwin.com/dir/clubs.php

The thing you have to be careful of is selling locally, you don't want to sell to shops those breeders already service.

I have a broker I sell angels to, he takes care of some of the shops further away from me, the time & fuel involved makes up for the cheaper price I give him on quantity purchases.

Ah right ok! Just out of interest do you sell alot? I know it is no get rich quick scheme but do you make any profit on them?

Sure I make a profit, but I'm not about to quit my day job. I figure to match what I make as a tradesman I would need to have about 5 times what I currently have running. This also means 5 times the sales. You can look in my profile to see what I have running.

Since a current fishroom upgrade, I'm in the process of trying to run to maximum capacity, this means somewhere in the neighborhood of 1500 to 2000 small angels in various stages of growing out & hatching. My broker buddy says he can move them, and has storage space, so we will see.

A couple years back a breeder in the next state retired, selling 8000 to 10000 angels monthly. He worked a part time job for insurance, out of pocket for heath care was a budget killer. 300 forty gallon tanks on a centralized system, huge setup, some of my gear came from him.

hopefully.

Angels
Mollies
Bettas
Guppies

and any others i can get to successfully breed

Hi Matt

Im not sure where your based but to sell livestock for profit in the UK I believe you need to be licensed by you local authority (district council I think normally). They will carry out an inspection of your facility's to check the welfare standards are correct. I know P@H, our other LFS's etc. all have their licenses on display and our local rag won't except adverts (classifieds a different story...) without one.

Hi
If you're thinking of breeding Bettas, you're gonna need individual tanks for the breeding males, Either a big big tank to hold your females or individual tanks again. A spawning tank, a big grow out tank or two, and loads and loads of gallon'ish containers to seperate the juveniles. I think we have the facilities to seperate approx 100 juveniles, plus the other tanks. Could easily fill a 10"x8" shed with what we have got. As for profit, unless you go into it BIG time it wont even be get rich slowly project
