How long can I realistically expect to wait before the tannin clear up?
I'm using carbon atm but probably not enough.

The wood itself was too big to boil, manage to soak it for a few days but only half/half due to its size.

The tannins are beautiful though!

But if you dont like it, carbon will help, frequent water changes as well, and some time for it to stop leaching. Though it could be some time.

Honestly I think the tannins add a beautiful natural look to that tank and tannins are really beneficial to fish too

Driftwood can release tannins for weeks, months or even years. If you don't want the tannins, put the wood in a container of water outside and change the water each week. When the water no longer turns brown, put the wood in the tank.
