So I bought some driftwood for my loaches to enjoy hiding behind/under, but is it ever going to sink? Are there any ways to speed the process up or a way to rig it to the bottom without making it permanant?

you could attach it to a piece of slate with some screws. must be plastic, or rust proof!
I have a huge piece of wood in my tank, and it took almost 3 weeks for it to sink.
i kept it in my bath with a wieght on top of it.

We put two large pieces into our tank and had the same trouble. I needed a bath after a while  so in the end we drilled loads of really small holes in it all over to try to release the air trapped inside. The drill bit was no bigger than 1mm diameter. It helped a lot, and with a rock on top of it to keep it down it stayed on the bottom after about a week. :)

Just use another bit of tank decor as a weight (if you have one).

hey i think i got your answer. i just purchased some malaysian driftwood at my lfs very inexpensive 8 bucks for a large piece. the best part of this is it is self sinking!!!! thats right you just place it in the tank and it goes to the bottom and stays there. you can order it online as well. VERY IMPORTANT!!!! i boiled the driftwood several times to remove anything that was in it some people will tell you that this is not necessary but i feel it s essential. try this and i guarentee you will be pleased.

I fill a food bag with gravel and then place it on the wood... can take a week or more to stay sunk...

I normally leave it soaking in a bucket for a couple of days first to let the colours leech out... change the water a few times to.

Pete28 where do you get the driftwood from, what site do you use? Do you think I could order it from the uk. 8 bucks sounds really cheap for a large piece.

You could try attaching suction cups somehow, perhaps wrapping them with fishing line.

Pete28 has the right idea. The malaysian driftwood is the best, sinks right away, but u do need to soak it for a few days. For some reason, its not too expensive, About $3.50 a pound at my lfs. I just bought a bunch of little pieces because they are hard to find. :)

hi dave i believe that the website DrsFosterSmith.com has the wood i jsut checked they have from 5 inches up to 15 inches the 15 inch pieces being 8.99 plus shipping im not sure how much shipping is to the uk. i must stress that if oyu do get it eihter let it soak in a bucket for between 3-7 days with frequesnt water changes or boil several times because it can change the color of your tank water drastically. hope this helps
Pete
