my husband and i bought a 30g tank mostly because we wanted some sort of pet but werent really into dogs or cats. Well it turns out that I love fish and want to buy as many tanks as my hubby will put up with and pay for. :p I am planning a 90 - 110 gal. tropical community tank and would appreciate any feedback on the fish i have chosen. Are they all compatible? is there enough of a balance as far as the area of the tank they stay in? etc... Thanks

2 Black Mystery Snail
6-8 dwarf gourami
2 Bamboo Shrimp
7-9 Tiger Barbs
6-8 Mollies
1 Bristlenose Pleco
6-8 marbled hatchetfish
2 Dojo Loach
4-6 blind cave fish

those tiget barbs might nip your gouramis, and gouramis themselves are not schooling fish, they will probably hide and you wont see them much...

I advise not putting anything with a long tail in with the tiget barbs.

Is the list of fish going into to the 110 gallon?? If so then you should do fine...You might want to get more tiger barbs so they won't bother your other fish.....I would also suggest getting a huge school of tetras(rummynose, neons, cardinals...etc....) get like 20-30 of them and they'll look awesome on that tank..... :D

I may replace the gouramis with something smaller like a tetra. I really like harlequin rasboras. thanks for the input. im not exactly sure on the tank size yet. depends on what i can get a deal on but will get between 90 and 110. cant go smaller then 90 for all i want to have but dont really have much more room than a 110 would take.

room is always a factor. I am considering removing my bookshelve with some 2 gals on top and getting a huge tank!!! My bedroom already has two 70 litre tanks (17 gal I think) i'll go do some mesurements now

i found a 200 or so gallon cube tank that was st a touch out of my price range, But it was so big i would have to kick my daughter out of her bedromm to make room for it.

What is it with people bad-mouthing tiger barbs! they're fin nippers but they're not killers! ... i think you're arrangment of fish would be great

Hi kittybug :)

You have a very interesting variety of fish picked out!

Do you plan to have live plants in your tank? If so, mystery snails might not be the best choice. They do tend to munch on plants. There might be other interesting snails who would be good though.

I like the blind cave fish. I have some and always enjoy watching them. They are a good conversation piece when you show your tank to guests. My betta was the only fish that I ever saw that didn't get along with them. He seemed to be afraid of them.

The loaches are a good choice too, but you still have plenty of room on the bottom for cory cats. Have you considered adding a school of these happy little fish?

Before you buy mollies, be sure that the ones your lfs carries are accoustomed to living in fresh water. Some of them have been raised in brackish water and cannot easily make the change. Platties would be a good alternative. They come in a variety of colors and are quite attractive.

thanks inchworm,
i already have the mystery sanils and love them. hadnt really planned on doing live plants i am happy with the fake ones and the fish dont seem to mind to much. I had originally planned on having a dragon fish and wanted to give him extra room at the bottom of the tank but after my first one died (tank escape) i went to get another and fell in love with the dojo loach. they told me at the store and the resesrch i did also told me these are bottom dwellers but after spending a week watching the dojo i would classify it as an all over the tank fish. i wanted to make sure my pleco had plenty of room too. I already have 4 live bearers, two sailfin mollies 1 baloon mollie and a gold wag tail platy. They all seem to be doing well

ok decided to change it a bit. thanks everyone for your fedback. i decided to keep the bristlenose and the tigerbarbs in the 30g i have now and add a few more barbs and maybe a crab or two. I was going to turn that one into a coldwater tank but i suppose i will just have to get another tank. (oh no im addicted :S ) Here is the new plan for the big tank. im thinking i am going to spend the extra and go for the 110 gallon and when i figured the adult sizes it came out to about 130 inches of fish but i will add slowly and maybe cut back on a few of them.
