Well, my dad accidently snapped a piece of my homemade plexiglass hood, so, do keep evaporation and fish in, I had to act quickly....

It aint pretty, but it worked!:

-0 fatalities
-Less than 1/2" of water evaporated in 2 weeks

PS. those pics are of my tank just after moving so it is fairly empty, none of my nice fishies are in there that I have now

Don't keep this on long at all, they have proved that plastic wrap will leach chemicals into whatever it covers. Yes it does this into our foods, especially when used in the microwave. I don't know how much the warmth of the aquarium or the heat of the lighting would affect it, but I wouldn't take a chance.

if it is completely airtight, you could eventually build up C02, as there is no way for oxygen to get in.

Lol, unfortunately I had to take her off to clean. Building new hood tommorow (well, later today I guess - Sunday) out of 1/2 plexiglass.

I made a mesh wire screening for a tank with no top before. Don't know if it is bad for them. No body has told me is was and I'll had it on there for months now. The fish are still acting normal.

mesh wire is fine. I usually just use the plastic hoods that come with my tanks
