Don't know what this is?

Sorry first posting and not sure where is appropiate.

Please see the attached picture. This egg cluster appeared on the underside of my tank lid - out of the water - yesterday.

I have a 55 gallon freshwater tank, with rainbows, clown loaches, chinese algae eater, some tetras, catfish sharks, rosy barbs and catfish.

Tank has been established in some form for two years, no major problems.

No apparent insects on or around tank. Really not sure what these are and wish to find out before whatever it is hatches?

Wow, they sure don't look like anything my snails ever laid. Haha maybe its a different kind of snails, since they do like to climb out of the water sometimes.

It's almost impossible to see it since the pic is too fuzzy. It looks to me like some sort of insect. Is your tank lid almost airtight? U think something might have crawled in there and laid eggs maybe? If you're worried about it, clean it off.

Hi Rainbow, welcome to TFF!

Pic is a little fuzzy but from what I can see I would agree with tstenback. If you have "mystery snails" in your tank, these would be their eggs. Leave the lid on the tank, the moisture from the tank is critical to their hatching, but don't submerge them.
Once these snails start laying, you can expect eggs on a fairly regular basis. They are easy to raise up, and a lot of fish stores will take them in trade or buy them from you. Check with yours.

I've never seen snail eggs that look like that.... mine were always just clear circles on the glass in the tank. Personally, I think It looks like one of those egg sacks from Alien.....

when we were in florida we saw apple snail eggs in the wild (Everglades), and they looked just like that. Mistery snails and apple snails both have like looking egg sacks, if you want them, i would just leave them where they are, if not i would clean them off. I've learned that they usually prefer the lid to anywhere else since it is the highest point out of the water that still gets moisture.
