Dojo Loaches And Shrimps

Oh, they can climb the sides if you have that annoying green spot algae stuff (the stuff you have to scrape off). They can scratch some of it off too, but they seem to prefer hair algaes. Probably easier for them to eat... One of mine seems to spend a lot of time sat on top of the thermometer, nibbling the algae off it.

Ok i now have new info. I have heard you can put amano shrimo with khuli loaches. The khuli loaches grow up to 4 inches in length. They look exactly like the dojo loaches to me, just a different color. So if you can mix 4 inch khulis with amano shrimp, Can't i mix my 4 inch and 5 inch dojos with them?

I will have pics of my tank tommorow and posibble spot for the shrimp to hide in because i barely have any place for them to hide other than 3 plants.

Shrimp are great at crawling though surprisingly tiny spaces. An idea for a hiding space I got from another post on this forum is to half bury a glass jar with a small hole remaining for access (kind of a cave), then cover the rest of the jar with whatever your substrate is. I'm thinking about building one of these in my tank and disguising it with moss as a little shrimp hiding place...

I'm not going to do it. Dojo loaches are great at squeezing through spaces and finding every available hiding spot on the bottom. Will post pics later on today, probably in a couple of hours.

The pics are finally here. They are pics of me tank and I would like to address the only spots the shrimp can hide since there isnt that many. I am posting these pics because i am wondering if i have enough spots for them to hide, and remmember i do have 2 dojo loaches. Captions for photos will be on top of the actual photo it addresses to. Note that these are NOT real plants.

This is just a general picture of my tank. The only three plants and potential hiding spots are the greenish bushy one to the right, the red straggly one to the left and if you look closely enough there is a short green one behind the red plant. Note that the 4 inch dojo loach is in the left side of tank. Just want you guys to show you how small teh loaches are compared to tank so shrimp may survive if that helps you in determining that.

This is a closer view of the red straggly plant and short green plant.

This is a side view of the two plants. You can now see the green one more clearly. It's leaves are tight and stiff. I dont think the red plant will do any good because it is just a couple of branches dangling outwards.

This is the green bushy plant. it has a lot of leaves sprouting. The leaves are close together but are soft and flexible enough for fish to swim into (my fish never swim in it though).

That its for the plants. Here are some pics of my dojo loaches.

This is my 4 inch loach.

This is my 5 inch loach.

And finally this is a pic of my two loaches together ( 5 inch loach is teh one to the right).

Ok but still. I am thinking of getting 4 of them since they grow to 2 inches. I am worried about when they molt that they might be vulnerable. Is that enough places for them to hide (when in molt and generally)?

To be completely honest, any shrimp you put in there will be eaten. I mean there are no suitable hiding places in there for the shrimp, unless you get a LARGE load of Java Moss your shrimp's survival rate will be zero. The only fish suitable to be kept with shrimp are ottos and corys. :good:

o, ok. I would like to hear some answers from other ppl to.

Dude, I think you have an awesome tank. Loving the ancient greek vibe to it and the loaches suit the ornamentation perfectly... But as it is, I don't think your shrimp would be happy. If you decide to go for it, I'd strongly advise much more plants/cover to keep them stress free. Personally, I wouldn't trust a fish like that not to at least try and eat a shrimp...

Well not really. First i want to discus it with Donya. she posted before on this thread and she has fully grown dojo loaches with her amano shrimp and they live peacfully. I am also going to discus it with a close friend at a pet store (that person that i trust so much).

Just letting you know, if you decide to add shrimp and they get eaten you can't say you weren't warned.
