Cats are underrated. My cat Annie is as smart as any dog and five times as independent. She used to answer the phone when I had an old fashioned one that picked up as soon as you took it off the receiver (she hasn't figured out how to answer the cordless, as you have to push a button to pick up the call lol); she did it many times, including to me. *ring ring* -pick up- *silence* me - "Hello?" Annie - "meow" me - "Annie?!? Is that you?!? What are you doing on the phone?!?" Annie - indifferent silence.
She also goes on long walks with me and my daughter. Last Halloween, she went trick or treating with us. I have long, dark hair and I was wearing a black coat, so I put on a witch's hat to take Jenica trick or treating. Annie is mostly black (with white boots and bib). She went up onto every single porch with us and sat beside Jenica like a well-trained dog while the people answered the door and gave Jenica her treats. I think every person we saw that night commented on the fact that we came complete with our own spooky cat! She also plays fetch, gives kisses upon request, and jumps onto my shoulder from the floor. She's special.
