Does Your Partner Like Your Tank?

nope he's as bad as I am, got 6 tanks between us now and possibly planning the 7th.

pretty much every evening at the moment we have dinner, chat about our day etc etc etc do what we have to do, then settle down to talk fish, I go on t'interweb to research and ask questions, he tinkers with the tanks  such an exciting life we lead!

as above......

i think i actually was the one to get my boyfriend obsessed with fish (oops...)
originally, he just had one betta, which his father managed to kill (he left it with dad when he went on vacation... big mistake)
now, he has several bettas, and another tank with a goldfish, a couple danios, and some dwarf platties. for our anniversary, i'm hoping to help him set up an even bigger tank :D

Well I'm only 13 but I dont think my girlfriend really minds that much cause she doesnt live with me (obviously) but she does get mad when I tell her I have to clean the tank...gotta go...click. Or when I dont call her because of the fish, or when I go on and on and on about the fish to her when its obvious she doesnt care. Lol

My hubby is not happy about it. My daughter kept asking for a fish tank and he would say not enough room; too many bills. (He works I don't ; we'll see later. I got tired of hearing later and he did promise. She really wanted that tank. I saved money from some odd jobs and babysitting and got it anyway . Set it up on HIS dresser and when he saw it he shook his head and walked away. Now he has accepted it is there to stay and even bought a pair of platies for her. My daughter now wants a bigger tank and he just grumbles and leaves the room. It will be a while though since I have to make more room and save up for it.

My partner is ok with it some days, and not others.. the 'not' days are generally the ones where im asking "wheres the Oscar at now?" worrying abut my fingers whilst i have my hand in the big tank, and shes busy tending to 2 screaming kids, lol

the kids love them tho, sit there watching fish for ages, and generally drift of to sleep, and generally makes for a "wifey likes fish" day.
On the buying, and spending score, shes generally not bothered about how much i spend, because im mean with money at the best of times :grr: She seems to have an expensive taste tho, loves zebra plecos, loves anything Malawi, and anything associated with coral reef. To be honest tho, i'd love a lion fish, lol think there fantastic looking creatures!

I recently bought my partner a coldwater set-up to go next to the bed, although 2 out of the 3 fish died :X She still loves watching the tropical 40 gallon and tending to her single fish though :)

I drag her to plenty of fish shops all over the place, and she loves all the marine fish for sale..

..hopefully she's hinting that one day, one day soon, we might convert to marine

Its MY fish tank and MY fish. I do ALL the work but when we get visitors my hubby says 'oh yes we do this to the tank and we do that to the tank, lovely fish we've got haven't we!! :grr:

Before I moved all (but one) tanks to my finished basement everyone absolutely despised the tanks. The only interest they showed was in the reef, mostly because of "Nemo". The reef tank is now the only tank that is not in the finished basement, and now they seem to love it. They love watching the corals and I actually got my mother to do topoffs

eek... my parents don't mind the fish so much, though they are much more bothered by the fact that i keep buying tanks when i have several empty 10gs. i've opted not to tell them about the 29g i just bought. i will either tell them when i ask them to buy me a stand for it ( ) or i'll buy the stand myself and not say anything until one of them shows up at my place and sees it. That's how they found out about the rats -lol-

as for the boyfriend, he doesn't mind so much. he likes me to have hobbies  and actually, when i said that i was going to want a koi pond when i had a house and room for it he got pretty into it. But it helps that he's a country boy and used to work for a landscaper. he doesn't mind dirty work (which is good cuz ain't no way I'M diggin' that pond ;) )

My fiance likes my fish, but i do all the cleaning, feeding, maintanence etc. His only issue with me and the fish is he doesn't want me to get too many tanks, and we've been discussing the size of the pond versus the garden recently.
Overall, i don't mind as long as my fish are happy- its been years now since i first bought my common & sailfin plecs, and adopted a common plec. I don't want anymore "tankbusting" fish as i'd rather my tanks had plenty of space to go around rather than be stocked to the max (then again, if i saw a fish that desperatel needed adopting, i'd adopt it i had the space and right situation) :) .

My other half keeps asking when we can get a another/bigger tank so we can keep discus.

I'd love to as well, but seeing as we have just bought a house, it's not high on the agenda at the moment.

I found she was more interested in my community tank when i let her influence the last species I bought.

Well, I do not have a GF, but I very often have parties, and really, nobody is very interested (except for one or two people who just look for a minute) then the big question gets asked,
"Anthony, who do you have all these aquariums"?
"Why do you have all those shoes? I've seen your closet"
"Well, I like shoes"
"I like fish :p "
"You'd rather have fish than shoes"?
"Depends..."
