Does This Look Like Fin Rot?

OK, so I did about a 50% water change and it's still about the same...maybe a little less. I tested my tap water and it's fine. 0ppm for the ammonia.

If I added live plants in there, would that help? I have some Java Moss, but that's it. Other than his fin colour, he seems to be perfectly fine. He's swimming around happily and even went to check out the Cherry Shrimp I switched over to his tank.

I'm assuming I should be doing water changes every day until it comes down to 0, though, right? Should I continue the Melafix? Or do the Melafix once the ammonia is down to 0? Or not do it at all? And what if I took some plants out of my 75 gal and added it to this 5 gal?

I'm a bit lost. Help! lol
personally i would do another 50% water change now, and get as many plants as poss from other tank and stuff it there temporarily, as yes they do suck up ammonia. :good:

also not sure adding the shrimps was the best idea at this point, i know they don't have a huge bioload, but you don't want to be adding any extra ammonia while you have a problem, also i don't know how well the shrimps will cope with the high ammonia, if its a problem for them and they die that will send your ammonia even higher.

melafix is antibacterial, so used while cycling might slow down/stall your cycle (maybe)

yeah every day until it reaches 0, maybe even twice a day, as that is what is it for cycling tanks, in doing this it will hopefully stop any further damage to the betta, as gills and body can be affected by ammonia burns too and it can cause all sorts of internal damage, but you keep on top of those changes and he should be fine :)

Unfortunately for my poor shrimp, that was the best possible solution  They were in my 1 gal with one of my other Bettas but the tank isn't heated nor does it have the same filtration system as the 5 gal. They really weren't doing that great in that tank and probably wouldn't have lasted much longer...AND they were only in there because they'd get eaten in either of my 2 75 gal tanks and my 10 gal has some giant Ghost Shrimp that would eat them, too :( They already seem to be more lively and are playing around in the Java Moss...I've been keeping a close eye on ALL of them...

I'm going to go steal some plants from my boyfriends tank...he won't notice, right? lol

Just a thought, but what if I did a 100% water change and used the water from my 75 gal to refill ????

Would have to match temp, ph,.
Also I would only use other tanks water if there no desease in that tank.

The one tank is running empty except for a blue lobster ???? I can test both tanks ph levels...I know the ammonia level is 0 in the lobsters tank b/c I tested all 6 of my tanks last night.

not being funny, but what would be the point? unless you have run out of water conditioner or something?
water only carries minuscule amounts of the nitrifying bacteria, it colonizes onto surfaces, like gravel, the glass of the tank, ornaments etc. so using water from another tank won't make it cycle any quicker.

Think it more to do with the fact that he wants to preform a 100% water change.

jaiden like i said try stress enzyme and stress coat....thats all u need, that combination works like a charm! i dont know why people are so worried about amonia or other stuff or maybe its just me.....i hardly change water in my betta tank....maybe once every month, and my betta is fine, i dont do no amonia test or rpm thing or watever, betta's are amazing fishes they can live in pretty much any condition, if u keep them too clean there going to get used it and thats just more maintenance for them and if u dont their going to get sick. back then when i had them in a lil jar, barely any room to swim, didnt take care of it, didnt feed it for like a week, waters all brown, they're still healthy and strong, their meant to live in harsh conditions.

Ammonia is harmful to fish its like living in a toilet, it burn there skin and damages there gills.
Never heard so much crap in all my life that ammonia not harmful to fish.

Bettas aren't meant to live in harsh conditions, where on earth did you get that idea from?!?
Water quality is important to all fish, Bettas are no different. Keeping one in a jar with no swimming space, no food and dirty water is just cruel.

Nikon, i have never heard so much utter *BEEP* in all my life

jaiden do not listen to nikon what so ever

he/she clearly hasnt a clue and is slightly deluded

haha i knew i would get flame, first i never said betta's are MEANT to live in harsh condition, i said they can live in almost any condition. have u guys looked up were betta's came from? there from asia there natural habitat is from swampy rice lands with muddy waters. imagine how dirty those waters are with hundred of bacteria's. Thats why they are so easy to keep and maintain, because they dont require a lot of care, yeah i know not feeding them for a week and letting the water turn brown is cruel. but that was a long time ago when i was just a kid. and like i said under those condition they can still survive and be healthy, obviously i do know what im talking about. but to jaiden, try stress enzyme and stress coat, it doesnt hurt to try, i did and it worked like a charm but its up to u. u can be like the rest and flame on me. im just trying to suggest some medication for ur betta. peace.

Nature takes care of them in the wild.
its not the same thing being in a bowl it get polluted, so we have to keep the water quality good.

their meant to live in harsh conditions.
That is where you said it....
What you have to remember is that the Bettas kept by people are captive bred and not wild caught so they don't live in muddy waters and have never been exposed to them. While it is nice to try and create the natural habitat of a fish, it does involve taking care of it and keeping it in the best conditions possible.
I'm afraid that with the advice you have given, it simply suggests you don't know what you are talking about.
