I introduced a shrimp yesterday, (although im not sure what kind and i was told it would be fine with fancies by the LFS) into a tank with my two small fancy goldfish, he was hiding most of the day yesterday but hasbeen out alot today, he has been sitting toward the top of the tank and one of my ancy goldfish seems to be coming up and either nipping or 'sucking' his tail fin as he goes fast, are they picking on my newly introduced shrimp?

Here is a pic of my shrimp:

That's a bamboo shrimp. A large peaceful filter feeding critter.

Take the shrimp back to the store, keeping these big gentle shrimp with goldfish isnt fair IMO.

It's far from ideal since they are also very sensitive to ammonia compared to goldfish, and you will need to target feed it powdered food (best mixed with water in a syringe) in your tank otherwise it will slowly starve.

The goldfish are also highly likely to eat it when it sheds its skin.

 diddnt want to get the little guy hurt, the shop guy told me breaking up th goldfish food into tiny pieces was fine, and i was also told that he'd be fine with the fancies :( hate those lying LFS shop keepers :(

It would be possible in some big set ups, but not in most (fancy goldfish are safer than regular goldfish, but still too big and boisterous). Crushing the flake food would work, but you would have to do do in front of the shrimp while it is filtering, most would just go into the filter. Adding lots of uneaten food into a goldfish tank with sensitive shrimp in it is a bad idea, especially a small tank with a relatively weak internal filter.

Water even looks cloudy in your tank, but that just may be an effect of the flash on the glas :).

yes, its acylic so the light relects funny, meaning when i take pictures i have to have the lights off so that i dont take pictures of myself :) water is fine, guess i'll have to take the little guy back to the shop

How big actually is the tank btw? I agree with three and would reiterate its high sensitivity to ammonia is the main problem as goldies are so dirty, so your lfs didn't lie that much sounds like the owner is more knowledgeable then the ones around me.

What do you mean by this?: so your lfs didn't lie that much sounds like the owner is more knowledgeable then the ones around me.

Your lfs owner told you a basic grasp of how to look after the shrimp and actually informed his customers that filter shrimp needed additional feeding from ground flake although he might not of outlined how exactly. One of my LFS has bamboo shrimp and I have been their a couple of times when people have bought them and there is no mention of how it actually has feeding requirements, I normally just tell them quickly once they are alone again whether they choose to listen and use my instructions is a different matter . Also your LFS does not know how good your filtration is whilst he could of asked you may of looked like someone who knew what they were talking about.

yes, we has been in there the day before to have a look, so he must of tought we knew what we were doing.

so a new tank or back to the LFS for the little guy is the only thing for it?

 he settled down in a corner erlier when i was watching him and he was moving fine, i came back somewhat later and he was dead :-( perhaps the fancies scared him by nipping him? that would surely stress him and ive read that they get stressed very easily, water and temp. is fine.

Poor Little Guy  R.I.P.

TBH I'd say there's something wrong with your water. Stress shouldn't kill it that quickly, and shrimp are notoriously sensitive to water conditions, where as goldfish are renowned for being able to survive bad water conditions.

That, and the fact you have two goldfish with a Stingray internal filter (which are great for some things, but IMO certainly not enough for goldfish) suggests that they may be off slightly.

Test kits aren't always very accurate, however, to determine the likelihood of water quality issues - what type and brand of test kit are you using, what are the lot numbers on the bottles, when was the last time you tested the water?

If you were using or had recently used any medications on the tank, that could have killed the shrimp. Likewise, if you just painted the room or spray lots of deodorant or whatever around the tank, that could of also killed the shrimp.

Just read your other thread in the coldwater section and no wonder the shrimp died

errrm.. no the water is fine now took it t LFS and had it tested the day before i had the shrimp, i wouldnt get a shrimp knowing the water is bad thanks

It might of been fine but shrimp are hyper sensitive to such things so if their was a fluctuation shrimp are sometimes more sensitive then a test kit. Also the 7 gallon size would of meant he would have no food.
