I was in a store the other day and like most stores they had all their bettas in little cups with lids. Do you think someone goes around each day and removes each lid to feed the Bettas?

I would guess NOT! I wonder how long these poor fish have to go without food????

I read so much about how bad it is to keep them in these small bowls but never heard anyone mention feeding them. Of course the more they eat the more amonnia, etc......

At one of my lfs, they have small holes in the lid, so I suppose the just drop food in that way. Although, they must always put too much in, because there is about ten pieces in the bottom of their water.

well.....

IMO, NO they don't! There's no way in heck someone stands there every day and prys off each & every one of those lids. Even the lid states to feed your betta twice a week sparingly :grr: . When I buy a new betta the FIRST thing I do when I get them home is remove their lid and feed them, then I begin setting up ther home and such, but it's clear to see that they're starving  ,poor little guys.

I've noticed a few of mine have "issues" when it comes to feeding,if they see me feeding the betta beside them first they get very anxious and excited...almost like they're scared they'll be overlooked or something  ,I guess they were traumatized and forgotten at the store a few times in the past ,bless their little hearts. One in particular, who shares a split 3 way tank, by the time I finish feeding the first two he's already pouting under his plant thinking he's not getting any  ,so I alternate from day to day so that sometimes he's first

I HAVE seen some stores with big holes in the betta lids...but the OLD Wal-mart lids had such tiny holes there's no way food would fit through there  . And if you look around the betta stand...there's no food in sight. :sly: :grr:

i've actually seen them do it. they pull all the cups off the shelf onto a cart, then drop the food in through the little hole that was punched in the lid. the cups are usually quite dirty andlots of poo present, so they get fed regularly, at least at the lfs i shop at.

my lfs keeps their bettas in little bowls without lids....and they have a bag of Hikari Betta Bites right there next to the bettas that has "opened" written acrossed it with marker. I guess I was referring to Wal-Mart and such in my above post because I'm happy to say that my lfs takes superb care of their bettas :D ,but chain stores that have one employee running the pet section...dog food, catnip etc etc...really don't have the time to stand around and feed the bettas (although I believe they should make the time!)

Our Pet Smart feeds them. They change the water too. I mean, not like OFTEN, but they do care for them. After all, that's loss of profits if they die on them. I don't like pet smart though. They're always WAY mean to me there. SNotty and the like.
