Just a quick thought but I'm interested in how many people DONT have plecs and their reasons for it. I'm thinking that some people don't bother because of how invisible they can be. I have 4 Ancistrus SP Rio Ucayali and they do come out but not as often as my other half would like. She thinks they are messy and take up space that could be used by a species more pleasing on the eyes

what do you guys think?

I don't because they poo too much, generally speaking get too large for the size of tank I want to keep, and either spend their time hiding or messing up the plants. Also the big ones freak me out too much. Evil looking things.

They're one of the fish that I simply fail to see the appeal of even though everyone else seems to goes nuts over them. Likewise discus and angels - some can have beautiful markings, but to me they're just creepy slow flat fish!

I prefer Whiptails to Plecs, for the simple reason that Whips are more active, much less messy and come in all shapes, sizes and quite a few colours haha! But there are still a few plecs I would get if I saw them :)

I kind of fit into this topic a little... I've not got a pleco in my smaller tank as for the reasons mentioned, too much poo.
Although in bigger tank i've got one but if i was to go back though i'd of got myself a smaller species of pleco.

Although they do hide most of the time i still find them cool, i like to try find them

plecs are awesome looking fish but for the reasons already given i steer clear of them.

i had a stunning panaque that didnt hide that much but the waste it produced was unbelievable  also had a super red bristlenose that managed to cover the substrate with tiny poo within a few days

there are many stunning plecs available that reach all sizes but if you arent going to see them and have to clean up after them constantly they dont really float my boat anymore

i used to have ancistrus, peckolitia and hypancistrus but got rid of them as they were digging up all the plants everyday and just hiding away in there slate caves now i have porthole catfish instead there much more active and dont dig.

I only have on in my 40g community because I though he was cute. (little albino BN). I have a CAE in another tank that I am trying to rehome but most people dont want them so he is probably going to go to the LFS (he creeps me out but my husband likes him). I do not think that I am going to put a plec in the 55g I am setting up. Too messy lol. Even the baby BN is a poop machine

I have to say I'm in the pro pleco camp here. I have a beautiful snowball pleco that is still quite small, and although when I first got him he was quite shy now he regularly pops out of his shrek house in the evenings for an entertaining swim. One day I really want some zebra plecos, but that is going to be a long way off when I have more experience, more time and a lot more money!

Snowballs are beautiful plecs. I am a big fan of the zebra plecs. If only I had $250 to spend on one lol.

Personly I am not a pleco fan but my wife has fallen in love with them so we have 4. 1 clown (in community tank) and Albino longfin bristlenose(female), Albino (male) bristlenose and a regular female bristlenose the later 3 are in my 75 gallon. it only houses 7 fish (eventually 8) so I do not worry much about waste. Ours are quite active though except for the clown.

I'm pro plec I have a large common plec in my community tank he dosnt create to much waste but then again the filter deals with it very well. I no he will outgrow the tank but I hope to have him a nice 3ft cube or 5x2x2 in the next 12 month

I have a golden nugget plec and and albino veil tail bristlenose.
I love them both they are fascinating to watch.
The goldenn nugget only comes out now and again in the day but always out at lights out.
The bristlenose is always out day or night she's not shy in the slightest.
They do produce a lot of poop but my filter and weekly maintenance deal with that.
I wouldn't be without them, there's nothing better than watching a pleco sucking on the glass!

My 3 rubbernose plecs are ace, very amusing little fish to watch. I dont think i want any bigger plecs, mostly because they would ruin the plants and the poop factor.

I have a BN (female, 'normal' colour) and a clown plec. The clown is very pretty but I never see it, ever. The bristlenose is a beast, flying around the tank if she thinks anyone is stealing her food. She trashes my swords, but I kind of forgive her because she is the absolute queen of eating algae. They both seem to create piles of plec poop around the bogwood sop that's easy enough to deal with.
