Thought this would be a funny posting. If you do name them, please share their names with the rest of us...

When I first started with the small tank, I had Neone and a Peppered Catfish.
Cause he was so much larger then the Neons, we call him Jaws !!!

I never thought until now about this but I realize that the only fish that I have even named have been cichlids.

And the only ones I've named have been livebearers. And then only the ones that have different patterns. No point with the portholes, where I've got about 20 of them and can't tell them apart.

I named my 6 neons Rammstein because theres 6 members in Rammstein. Then there was 5 neons so i named them Breed 77 now I 4 neons and dunno what to call them.

I have to red bellied pirahanas. The large aggressive one is Russell and the small timid, sickly one is Bob.

*two* RBP's lol

i once had a group of neon's named "the anthill mob", and a large loachy bottom feeder thing called "lucifer" , and two silver sharks called "de niro and pacino".

that was years ago though. ive just started up again but not named anything yet.

I started out in the hobby with 3 goldfish Eeine, Meenie and Minie who shared a tank with a peppered cory named Moe.

Very original i know

I've been keeping fish for many years now, I can't remember if I've named any.

I think naming your fish can be fun heh? ^_^

Some great responses...........some brilliant names.............given me an idea about naming some fish after Hollywood starts or even football (soccer) players...........ummmmmmm....:)

We only really name the fish that have obvious differences to the others.

Three of the glowlight danios have names. One is called Lemon because his colouring is slightly more yellow than the others. Two of them are smaller than the others and they are Sparky (one with a torn up fin :( ) and Sally (the one without the fin problem, haha).

Two of the julli corydoras have names as well - again, one is because he is much smaller than the rest so it's noticeable. His name is Jim. I'm not sure why, it just IS. The other is Tarzan, because he likes to sit on the plants and fake trees :)

Named only one fish and it's "Punk".

It's a young platy and he actually do look like a punk with his dorsal fin.

He's always following bigger/older males. When they are tired of being followed, they turn over and "Punk" disappear very fast because he's scared.

I only have one named fish, a neon called "Claude". This is because I have five neons, but every time I look there are four. And I look, and I look, and I'm just about to start searching around the tank for a jumper when, lo and behold, there are five. That fifth neon is Claude, because I swear he has the power of invisibility.

Admittedly, I'm not entirely sure it's always the same neon, but I'm pretty sure it is.

My flatmates have also instituted the custom of calling dead fish Bob. This happened during the period when I didn't know about cycling and lost quite a few fish. They started calling all the dead ones Bob, and referring to fish dying as "ascending to Bobdom". I'm not sure why, since none of them ever bobbed around on the surface, but I can't shake it now. Fortunately, there have been no Bobs in my tank for a while now, and I certainly hope that continues to be the case.

I guess I have names for two fish that I have:

Bolivian Ram - For some reason I think a good name for him will be Brutus

Cherry Barb - The only fish that I actually call by its name, which is: Pinky! quite a name for the most aggresive fish in my tank. He got that name because my dad called him the pink fish. (Even though he is clearly red)

Edit- Oh yeah, I guess I could call my Marbled Angelfish Ying-Yang because one side of him has the red eye and lots of black coloring, and the other side has a white eye and more white coloring. Seems like a good/evil thing to me.

Here we go then.

Ruby Shark - George
Siamese Fighter - Yoshie
Marbled Mollie (pregnant) - Skip
Marbled Mollie (male) - Rope
Baby Mollie (single) - Lucky (survived 2 overnight stays with George in his hatchery!!!)
Plecos x2 - Bill & Ben
14 Neon Tetras – Frank

I think that covers the community.

I should also add that it’s my misses that generally makes the names up!

I name bettas, but the only fish I've every named was a smaller, male pepper cory called Taz. I'm not sure why... he was always reffered to as "spazzy tazzy."
