Do Those Alge Fizzing Pills At Walmart Actually Work?

hey so i was at walmart yesterday and saw these tablets you put in your fish tank to make the algae go away, they looked almost like alka seltzer, the pics showed them fizzing and everything

do these actually work?
i havnt seen these at my usuall fish stores ever
so i dont no

Do you have a brand name? Some work. Others may kill your invertebrates or maybe even fish.

nope, i think they were just Aqua Culture, the walmart brand of fish stuff, what are some companys that make ones that i could trust?

i personally wouldnt trust any fish stuff from walmart, their stuff is usually very old and who knows if its still any good.

best algae solution is to get a pleco or some other type of algae eater
i had a slight algae problem but after leaving the tank light off for a week my otto ate it all up

if you go with ottos you might wana get 3 or more, im actually gona get a few more in a couple of days

It is always best to figure out why you have algae and fix the problem rather than just treating it. Chemicals or algae eaters aren't the solution. Do you know what type algae you have? The 2 prime causes of algae are overfeeding and too much light (especially direct sunlght) or a combination of the 2. Does our tank ever get diect sunlight? How long do you have your ank lights on ach day? Do you have any live plants (algae treatments ill kill them)? Here is a link to a site to help you ID your algae.

As far as algae eaters are concerned, different fish will eat different types of algae so until you ID the algae, it's just a guess as to what type AE to get. And if it's blue-green algae (actually an organism rather than algae), no fish or invert will eat it.

well i have some fuzz algae and then i just have some really annoying spot algae growing on the front my my acrilic tank itself, i have one of those magnetic alge scrapers but its a pain to get off the really stuck on stuff
