Do I Really Need The Filter I Want

right basicly i want an eheim pro3 2080 my tank is 456 litre/100 ukg stockk is 1 red severum 1 rotkeil severum 1 blue acara 12 corys 2 kribs little juvenile green sev im running an eheim pro2 2028 and an eheim 2212 internal ( not cycled just added today)

hows the filtration in your honest opinions ? i know i want this filter to replace the 2028 but do i actually need more filtration than i currently have?

well looking at specs the 2028 turns my tank over only twice an hour so im gonna get the 2080

See if you can sell the 2212 to make up some of the money. Its not providing much to the tank anyway, and the 2080 + 2028 will be fine together wothout it.

im only using the internal to help polish the water no biological media in it all mechanical the biological filtration comes from the external. i would keep the 2028 as a spare just in case .

Would it work as a spare if it is currently running without filter media?

Surely only limited bacteria and benefit then?

even with media, the flow is too high for bio filtration. it will provide some, but not much. its better used, as said above, for polishing and also for added flow in the water, if you have fish that enjoy that sort of thing. however, i would definitely go with something smaller for those purposes. i dont like internal filters. they take up too much space, and just dont look good in the tank imo.

the internal is full of floss etc its only small you hardly notice it in the tank ive put it behind some roots. it does a great job at polishing the water.

the 2028 provides my biological filtration but doesnt provide enough turnover so that is being replaced with the 2080 which is more than up to the job.

I was looking at one of these myself, could I get a couple of pouches of purigen and some filter floss in one, I was also thinking of feeding my co2 airline into it to help distribute the co2 in the tank.

what do you think?

It may be worth considering a eheim 2217 and running this alongside the 2028,
The 2217 is around £70-75 and comes complete with media,

i did think of that davo but i only want to run the 1 external less pipework cables etc

I have that exact combo, they work great but on a big tank it can be a pain to prime the 2217 as the pipework is so far away

I would always run two filters on a large tank, even if they are as reliable as Eheims. Failures do occur, and a redundant system is never a bad thing
