i am so impatient i cant wait to transfer my little fishes into their new big home but i need to ask you guys a questions first. The new tank is set up and ready with new grit and filters. i have put in the bogwood from their tank as well as some plants and also a fluvel filter sponge which came from their tank also. Does anyone know how long my poor little fishes will have to wait until they can move in? By the way new tank was running from yesterday.

Now if you add some of the other tank water.

Check temp and ph have to match them though.

Just curious... why would you say that? because he/she has put in the old filter sponge? i would think that it would still take some time.
also, what would adding water from the other tank do?

Taking water from the old tank will mature the water in the new tank abit instead of all new water, plus it always wise to check the ph anyway.
But don't use old tank water if you have had desease in that tank.

ok, the reason i ask is that i too am setting up a new tank. the tank has been running for a few days now and i added a couple of cups of gravel from my other tank today. i was thinking that i might put some of my danios into the new tank in the next day or two. is this too soon?

No point adding the gravel if you have nothing to keep the bacteria alive.

You would be using the danio's though to cycle the tank, you could add them, but i believe the fishless cycle is the way to go.

i've been putting in a bit of food each day for ammonia and when i tested the water in the new tank today there ammonia was like 0.12 and there was even some nitrite..

Right that ok then, danio are hardy fish but it still takes it toll on them, never a guarantee when you use a fish to cycle a tank that they will survive, ammonia and nitrite to go through.

i know, that's what i was thinking. that's why i'm suprised to hear you say that the thread starter could put their fish in right away

He has added his old filter so that should get things going, gravel and plants.

won't i put my other tank into a cycle if i take the sponge out of there though? (both tanks have aquaclear filters, although the new one is much bigger)

I don't think he using the other tank he didn't say.
