Hi,
Do I have enough room in my tank with my current stocking (see signature) for a pair of either German or Bolivian Rams?

Thanks
Mike

Yeah you have room for a pair, I would think the bolivians would do better, as the blues ideally need higher temps than the corys would appreciate, saying that I never had problems keeping blue rams around 26/27c, although some will say they need 30c for optimum health, whereas the bolivians will be ok with the lower temps 24-26c.

well, the blue rams require very low ph, and some of his stocking does too, but the current stocking can handle higher ph's and german blues cant. plus german blues need high tempurature too.

i would suggest bolivians.

Do I need to try and get a male and female or does it not really matter?

Thanks for the advice so far I really appreciate it.

Mike

Go with bolivians, and go a for a M/F pair if possible.

Hi,
I was going to go with the Bolivians because they are hardier and easier to look after. The ones I will be getting are young so maybe hard to sex will it matter if I end up with two males or two females, I will ask for one of each if possible.

if the pet store has a return policy you might want to get 3 or 4 of them, wait for 2 to pair up, and then return the other one(s). i personally think its very important to get a male and a female.

i think all three of my bolivian rams are male, they fight occasionally, but the tank is big enough for them to have their own territories, i dont know how it would be in your tank though

I'll be the dissenting voice it seems but if you look at some of the similarities with my stocking and tank in my sig i wouldn't add two rams, let alone 3 or 4 as has been suggested, to yours.

Additionally,if you did manage to get a breeding pair you will lose a quarter to a third of the tank bottom space to them when they have fry and that will be most of the time.

Just the level of stocking. Your sig says you have 27 fish if i counted correctly. Seven of those are already bottom feeders, the corys and the bristlenose and the rams like the same space.

Add in the fact that you might get a breeding pair and the Cory's would be constantly getting nudged away from any fry.

My roma 125 looks busy(ish) with 13 fish now they have grown and even though you don't have the exact same fish you have twice the number. You were presumably thinking much the same thing yourself since you worded the question that way "do i have room?".

Very nice looking tank though !

Hi,
I have just updated my signature as I realised it was a little out of date (though not by much), I will have to seriously consider my options then.

Thanks for your input.

Mike

1. male
2. female

just going by the fact that most males are more colorful than the females in any animal such as ducks and guppys and stuff like that.
