I have had one lone pearl danio in my tank for a while now (long story)

When I first had him I never ever noticed any form of catfish like whiskers on him but just recently he has developed long whiskers either side of his mouth.

They are definately whiskers not parasites etc....

Strangely he does spend a lot of time down with my three cory catfish when there diggin for food.

Is this normal ?

He seems perfectly healthy by the way.

All danios have barbels, some are more prominant than others.
It is perfectly normal and nothing to worry about.

Nothing is actually wrong with your fish. Suprisingly enough Danios are actually a Barb & Carp-like species. Being a a Barb and Carp-like species Danios do have whiskers. You will usually see these when the Danios are searching for foood at the bottom of your tank(s) and when your tank light has been truned off for an extened period.

I even saw some Danios described as moustached Zebra Danios in the Gold Fish Bowl in Oxford yesterday.
