Or am I just trying to convince my self that is the reason for green poos when it is something worse?

What kind of fish do you have? What do you feed them. Mine get green poop because I feed the veggies and veggie flakes from time to time. My severum eats plants and has the best green poo ever it's kind of pretty. But when I feed normal flakes the poop is that color.

So what are you feeding them?

There are some fish that are obligate carnivores. They get their nutrients that normally come from vegetables by eating other creatures that have eaten those vegetables. So, no, it is definitely not ALL.

But, most fish are omnivorous, and most will at least nibble on algae from time to time.

Ah right, I only ask as my keyhole cichlids are doing huge amounts of big green poos. Can only think that they are eating the plecos poops.

No fish do not eat poop. My keyhole likes to eat algea wafers so that could be it.

They sometimes do, just depends what type of fish, what the poops like and how hungry it is. Like Bignose said, most fish are omnivorous.

In fact, some fish in particular are known for eating poop, like fish from the family Scatophagidae (which is from the Greek for basically "poop eat").

Ok so do TILAPIA they eat poop. But poop is not the main food for these fish they just eat poop that they could digest more. A keyhole cichlid should not be eatting poop. Sure I have seen mine try and eat it but spit it right out when they taste it.

Obviously your Keyholes are well fed, and the poop they tried wasn't good enough for them, but some poop would be irresistible, just depends on it's content lol.

I'm clearly not saying all fish eat poop all the time, I'm just sating most fish do eat it infrequently.

Green waste from a fish usually means it has been eating something green. There are few fish that I know of that will eat fish wastes but maybe you have found one. I would more likely think it has been nibbling the algae.

so since im now feeding my fish red colored food their poop will turn red? and if its something purple purple poop? hehe :shifty:

i dont know if its just my immaturaty but this actually made me laugh, like out loud lol

Yeah, I could have been all proper and used the word "faeces" instead, but "poop" is more fun :D.
