most of you probably know this trick already. i hate how bright the tank lights are so i tanke some tinfoil, fold it over 3 times to the size of the glass area for the light. then i rip some holes in it. put the light over top and bam 2 minute natural looking sunlight like its coming thru the trees into a river. my fish always seemed to have better color with this trick.
 
its so fun messing about with tinfoil i always use it in my tank although im not too sure how
 
yes, it doesnt pick up much heat, the vents in the light are good enough to keep it all cool.
 
The rays might work if the tank had black water extract in it or heavy tannis from bogwood.
