Any large diameter pipe will work... one end goes in the tank..as long as the outlet end is bellow the water level you suck hard and the water will flow..
to save getting a mouthfull, stick your thumb over the outlet quickly...
alternative is sold on ebay for just a few £ ...this has a non return valve and a squeezy part to start the flow..... its certainly less disgusting if you are sucking all the muck out of the gravel.
