Yup, it's me again. I'm still on the search for a better water change system.

My problem comes in that my kitchen, with a mixer tap, is too far away from the tank to be realistically doable. The bathroom is just across the landing, maybe 8-10 metres. I've been looking at various tutorials but I have difficulty in a number of areas. I'm concerned about the difficulty of keeping the water below it to allow a syphon thing to work (I totally butchered that sentence. The taps are also an issue, as the bath tap is too big to attach an adaptor too, and the sink has separate hot and cold taps.

Now, I'm trying to come up with a system which will work for me and I now have a new theory that I was looking to run past some people.

I had a look at this thread and it's a great idea, but it's problematic for me. As I understand it, the hose coming out of the input runs on gravity; it's a siphon. This wouldn't work for me because the bottom of my bath (where I'd siphon the water out to) is barely lower than where the water would be coming in from.

Now, correct me if I'm wrong. I'm of the theory that while the input of the filter is running on gravity, there is obviously equipment in the filter to get the water back up to the tank again. So, my theory is, could I cut the outflow pipe on my filter and attach a T piece. On one side of the T goes the normal outflow pipe, and on the other side I can attach a valve which I can open and close as need dictates and a piece to attach a hose onto. Now I think about it, I'd also need a valve on the output side to stop water going back into the tank.

I've already explained the problem that I dont have a mixer tap. Would it be feasible to use one of these to attach to my taps? Cut the shower head off and attach to the pipe, then the water can go back in the same hose it just came out of.

I'm looking to get a bigger tank in coming months, so I'm desperate to find an easier system than buckets before it becomes an even bigger PITA.

I don't see why it wouldn't work, tbh. I was thinking of doing the same on my 1200, as my levels of the tank and bathroom are not that different, but still manage to get the syphon started.

Shower attachment cout work really well in my opinion!!

Good luck!

get another T piece for the 2 single tapes and add that to your python effort! i did that in the bathroom and it works. mix the water in the first Y then connect it to the part where (if you had one a mixer tap) would connect! and its a home made mixer tap.... ish you get me?

to get the water started i just take a right good lung-full of pipe and just drop it into the bath when i can see the water coming!

A nice 3 way valve instead of a T and you are in business for draining. Turn the handle one way and flow goes straight through. Turn it the other way and flow goes out to the drain hose. One of those valves came with the fountain pump that I use in my summer tub. It works great for draining the tub in the fall.
