what ornaments and objects have you made youselves?

I've been browsing the site and this weakend im gunna have a go at aquascaping my tank for the first time, ive had tropical fish for about a year and from here i now have some ideas.

Im going to buy some silver sand and new plants, ive got myself a tube of aquarium silicone and im going to make some sculptures to go in, maybe some kind of arch out of pebbles.

I was also thinking of putting in an upside down plastic bowl and cutting a front out to make a cave, covering the top with sand.
I have a red tailed shark, he'd probably like that.

Has anyone else made some DIY sculptures that work well, i'm still looking for ideas? Thanks

I can see you are new, welcome to the board!

I recall many threads here on DIYing tank furnishings, unfortunately, they are all so diverse. I can normally say "do a search for x", but with such a diverse subject, I can't think of a search term that will return everything, or even a big chunk!

As long as you follow the basic rules...
  • - aquarium grade sealant
    - stones without sharp edges thats are...
    • - well washed of any possible contaminants
      - lime free, (don't fizz when treated with vinegar)
    - basic engineering so it doesn't fall over and crush your fish or break your glass
    - not so heavy it threatens your base
... sticking pebbles/stones together has been a mainstay of the genre for years. Other rules...
  • - be creative
    - have fun
    - post pictures

yeah i will post the pics when finished, thanks for the welcome, cant wait to get stuck in!

This is a little rock ouse that I made out of some stones from a local river and some aquarium silicone. It has 5 of these little openings all the way round. I just kept adding until I thought I may not be able to pick it up LOL - then I left it to cure for 48 hours.
