Hovis breadmaking yeast, your local supermarket should have it, tescos near me does.
 
I don't think that yeast is alive, as it's intended as a food supplement for humans.

You can find brewer's yeast / champagne yeast in any home brewing department, or get baker's yeast (usually sold where you can get baking ingredients and/or spices).

yeast is alive, but just in a dormant state due to no food, once you supply food (sugar) it becoimes active.
