distilled water for my tank

i'm quite new to this and i am goin to do a partial water change soon, i was wondering as our tap water is quite hard, if i could use distilled water? we use it at work for our flame polishers so it wouldnt be hard to get about 10 or so gallons of it. what do you think?
i can only imagine that it would be far better than tap water as presumably its pure h2o, but im a bit scepticle as i've never heard of anyone using it before.

Tap water isn't ideal for marine anyway. Distilled (or RO water) is what you should be using so if you can get it for free that's brilliant!!
