Disk Problem Loading

its a desk top ,thanks for all the help ,if the drivers had been wiped off can you down load them again or is it difficult thanks

humm, i would pop off the case and re seat the ide cable. lol if it is an ide drive. there is not the slightest reason to spend any more than £30 on a dual layer dvd/cw re writer. well on a desk top anyway.

Most ide drives have drivers built into the OS, so I'm fairly shure you'd see issues with other drives as well if softwear was the issue... This isn't always the case though if you don't have other CD/floppy drives. If you have a Windows CD, there is nothing stopping you running a Windows Repair session, that should fix any deleted drivers :good:

After that, try re-seating the ide/sata cable, both at the drive and motherboard end (make sure you are touching something that is earthed, the motherboard is static sencitive :good: ) and try again. Failing that, try a drive from another computer in it if available. If the other drive works, you need to replace the existing one as it will have failed. If the working drive does not work, there is a cable connection issue somewhere. IDE leads that are cheap will break if over-flexed, and these can be replaced from as little as 50p. Again, you can test to see if that is the issue by borrowing one from a different PC/working drive where the OS does not reside ;)

All the best

often, simply, un installing the driver, in device manager, and clicking "check for hardware changes" solves this problem. as a precaution, disconnect the mains lead for a minute or so before reboot.
