every time i try to load a disk it says please put a disk inn ,even though theres one inn,ive tried a cleaner this doesnt work any ideas please

i think you can pick one up for 60 quid. but first open up your machine and see if it is connected to the motherboard the massive PCB in the pc

is it a laptop or a desktop? depending if you want a dvd writer conbo etc then it depends on price writers in desktops can be picked up for as little as £10 nowadays

remember you will get one second hand but for it to work smoothly i suggest you get one with the same writing speed. if its a laptop just take the top plate off and peer in at the conections, i had the same problem as you and found that one of the connections was loose

well if your using it for playing games or burning cd/dvds, the writing and reading speed are very noticable, if your a gamer i suggest you go with atleast a 30*writer for burning and ripping cds i suggest atleast a 20 or your going to be there for ever.

argh u mean if he goes lower speed than he has then he will notice the difference in waiting for things get ya now.... just wasnt explained 2 well up above lol :p

Desktop PC's can have drives replaced for very little if you know what you are doing. SATA and IDE data links are backwards compatible, so if you buy a drive that is faster than the current one, if the computer can handle it, it will run at full speed. If it cannot, the drive will run slower and you simply won't get the full read/write speed from it :good:

before you start pulling your comp to bits :hyper: check to make shore the drivers have not been wiped off
