Hi,
This is my first time posting to this forum.
I will be setting up a discus tank and although I have much experience with other fish, I don't have much experience with discus. What is everything I need to know about them? Water quality, food, habitat, tank mates?
I know this is asking alot but I've tried finding info other ways with no such luck.
Thanks!

Hey, I've set up a discus tank recently. Well it's been up since before Christmas. Anyway. You want the water about 6.5-7.0 pH. You want the heat at 29-31°C. You need to have soft water. A planted tank is very helpful. NO AMMONIA! At all. Other then that they are a rather easy fish to look after :).

Okay thanks! Also do you know if discus can live with any of these fish?
Dwarf rainbows, Burmese microrasbora, rasbora brigette, long fin German rams, congos, neon and cardinal tetras, guppies, or platties?

Much thanks!

I have had my discus a year now I got quality 3" fish from Hans. What I had to learn the hard way was these fish get stunted easy. Everyone told me they need extra wc they can not be neglected you have to feed 3 times a day. My biggest is 5" and he was the first one I got took the best care of him. My others well I slacked on and they are only 3-4" and a year old. Average size is 5-6" for adults some get up to 8". So I messed. Weekly wc were not good enough.

Discus are easy to keep hard to grow out. Mine spawn I ever got wigglers they are happy and healthy but stunted.

As for plants they are not needed. To grow them out a bear bottom tank is best.

Buy 4" fish at least don't raise young ones unless you have lots of extra time.
