A mate of mine has 6 discus in his tank all water conditions are perfect. The problem is that one by one the discus are going completely mental swimming at high speed even to the extent of hitting the sides of the tank and it a good size tank 5ftX2ftX18" does anyone have any idea what this could be? he is desperate he has lost 2 of them through this and he does not want to lose any more. please help if you can. thanks

I have heard of heaters that go bad and have a small amount of current released into the water, making fish easily startled.

Just an idea. :dunno:

my discus have done the same thing in my tank and it had nothing to do WITH heaters OR filtration as i have 2 ehiem pro 8000 liter per hour externals
at first i thought that it was hole in the head but in the end i think that they were just getting spooked for no reason i found out that my talking cat was the one that was spooking them what other fish has your freind got

MAYBEE THE HEATER THING COULD BE THE REASON BUT I CHANGED MY HEATERS AND THEY STILL DID IT UNTILL I PUT MY TALKING IN ANOTHER TANK

:D
JUSTIN

Cant say I know this behaviour sorry
I hope you work it out soon!

My discus normally chase ME back and forth when I walk past the tank, they are far from shy.

Didnt we answer this for you not long ago? Im pretty sure we did.??

Anyways. They sound spooked to me. Try adding cover for them, find out whats spooking them, maybe a cat or moving object and remove irt from the room. If you feeel the need u could cover the tank until you have found the cause to make them feel secure. U could also add a background.
