as im to convirt my 4x2x2 into a planted discus tank. ive worked out that the 2 eheim 2217s il be using will give me roughly 3.5xturnover which isnt exactly much for a planted tank , so im thinking about getting a circulation pump rated at 3100l per hour, which would give around another 6.8 bringit up to about 10x.
i really want the turnover for the plants but ive read that discus prefer calmer water, would it create too much current for them?

theres a 2000l per hour 1 which would still improve circulation all be it a bit less

My tank has a fluval 405 (1300 lph) and the Std Jumbo Juwel filter with powerhead setup (1000 lph. I bought the tank from someone who had it full of discus. I know its not a brilliant answer but I suppose its a point in the right direction

that will be givin just over 6 turn overs a hour but i am thinkin along the lines of 15 times and hours as in planted tanks? i understand what u mean

could really do with a definitive answer on this as im pretty close to ordering stuff.

i am now runnin 15x turn over so next could of days i will let u no i might have a 3000LH power head for sale for £15 posted if u want to go the same as me?

yeah let me know how the discus get on with the extra current , i may well be interested in the 300lph powerhead but i may comprimise and get a 2000 lph which will still give good turnover but slightly less current .

i think the plants will cut alot of the current out well hopfully. well i dont need this one it will be goin on ebay if ya dont want it i have not tested this one yet but its ment to work.

iv always worked on 5-10x a hour with my growout tanks and 3-5x on my breeding tanks , this is the problem with planted discus tanks the plants need the turn over but the fish dont , the other problem is the temp of the water you have to be carfull what plants you use as alot of the plants wont tolarate discus temp

jagz

i have selected plants that do well in teh higher temp. the discus im getting will be approx 4 inches

i have now had 2days of 15x turn over the discus dot look like they mind to much no change that i can see in them so goin to stick to it for now

ive decided i will go for a happy medium and get the smallest hydor koralia , should be ok as i will be getting discus at around 4 inches , if they really dont like it i can always remove it and sell it on .
