Yesterday I introduced 2 silver sharks and 2 congo tetras into my tank. Despite my reservations I was reassured by the shop that the sharks will live happily in my community tank.

However, overnight I have lost 4 neons. I also have 6 glow lights which are all still present.

I am doubtful whether the sharks are to blame because they seem very placid and have shown no interest in the other fish, they seem quite happy nibbling at the driftwood.

The congo tetras however are quite fiesty but they haven't been chasing the neons.

The sharks are 3 inches and congos are 2 inches.

I only went to bed for 5 hours but obviously something untoward has been going on.

I was so proud of the fact that I haven't lost any fish since setting up but guess I've just been lucky :-(

What size is your tank?
silver sharks need around 55G's

Its 260 litres. One neon has reappeared so I'm only 3 down!

We intend to rehouse them when they are bigger but we need to find ourselves a bigger home first!

Corrected... Out by over a factor of 10.

These fish reach ~40cm, need a big group of 10+ to reduce skittishness are very active fish.

They have no place in a 4-foot tank, only a tiny percentage of fishkeepers have a tank suitable for these for life i.e. ~12x3x3.
