My photo of Eric was not accepted into the pic competition as i was told the verification pic had been digitally altered.

I'm sorry but that is very much incorrect. The only thing done to the original pic was it was cropped and resized, a perfectly acceptable thing to do, and many do this.

What i submitted
verification-1.jpg

Original straight from camera

If i had been shown i hadnt dated it, fair enough i spose, but i was told it was not included due to me apparently altering the pic. I'm upset by the accusation.

Can i please be shown where the digitally altered section is?

I don't know - can't tell as it just looks like a normal pic to me LOL (lovely fish!). Could it be that in the version you submitted you had cropped the date off? Or maybe because the edges of the note looks a bit odd and could be believed to have been superimposed or whatever they call it?

I'm sure someone will tell you the reason.

Regards, Athena

To be honest, it looks fine.. just the note looks odd because it is flashed and stuck on with some water instead of tape or whatever.

The note is just stuck onto the tank with water....you can see the reflection of the paper on the tank glass. So i definately didnt superimpose the paper onto the pic. I only took the march of as it was an april contest, though i did take the pic towards the end of march, and it was cropped, i'm certainly not the only one to srop a photo, and thats a far cry from digitally altering it i would have thought

And thanx, i love em, definate characters oscars *L*

Kitty Kat - Yeah normally i tape, but be blowed if i could find any, so i figured water will hold it just for a veri pic *L*

I forgot to mention in the last post, but this is the reason I don't bother entering the competition.

doesnt look like its been post processed to me. surely common sense says that if you were going to go to the effort of editing it you would sort out the lighting etc as well?? shame as its a lovely fish .agreed that the note does look strange but i wouldnt think its an edited pic .

Yours was not the only fish that did not get entered, mine included but for a different reason.
I have read the rules over and over and it does state 2 photographs I would assume this means not the same photo which has then been edited etc.
I can't comment on what digitally altered means so I'm not saying this is the case for you, but quite a few entries have been ommitted.
We can try again next month.

LOL!! Anyone would think you were trying to obtain a passport with a fake photo or something! I think your picture looks strange because it has been resized, nothing else. Take it on the chin mate and try again next month. :good:

mine was omitted as well, My fault though cos I forgot the verification pic

My Badis was ommited too since it didn't have a verification. A few months back, my entry without a veri, but showing the exact same as with my entry shot, was accepted. Plus, I was told at the last moment so I did't even manage to change my entry.

If you read the FOTM rules, Mattlee, you'll see that we recognise how difficult it is to get one good picture of a fish, never mind two, so we have made provisions for this.

If you can get a pic which provides evidence that it is the same tank, that will be fine. Probably the easiest thing is to try to get a pic identical to your entry, but minus the fish. I'll be able to verify that it's the same tank and your entry will be allowed. Does that make sense?

The pic above (neither of them) isnt the same pic i entered. It was purely just a quick snap of the fish in the entered pic to prove it was mine.

I should take it on the chin that i was falsely accused of altering a pic i most definately did not?? I dont think so. My reputation is a stake for a start. I have never cheated at a photography comp ever and i'm not about to be accused of doing just that now

I fulfilled the requirements. I added a verification pic as is in the rules. I missed a date on it i spose, but that was not the reasoning given to me on my omission from the competition.

At the very least an apology would be nice for the accusation. The pic was put up on the 31st March, plenty of time for them to query me if they had concerns on the validity, and this could have been cleared up. But i wasnt even given that courtesy.

Have youactually been accused of cheating Alasse or have you taken it that way? If its just a blanket rule that ANY digital altering renders a pic void then you would have fallen foul of that without any malicious intent and therefore no cheating

I do know that Backtropical squeezed these competitions into his limited spare time and doesn;t get on much to be able to answer this query straight away

The original pic is a lovely pic why not reenter it next month with a normal verification as well as other peoples that didn;t get entered like mine :good:

I'm sure he is busy and am appreciative he does the comps in what spare time he has, but what has occured here is not right. And it needs to be brought to other attention so it does not happen to someone else.

What other way can i take it?

If i am not permitted to enter a competition because i digitally altered a pic. This is what i was told. I was not asked to supply further verification as it states in the rules.
To me that meant i was accused and found guilty and then penalised. When i fact i did nothing of the sort to warrent being told that in the 1st place.

I might add that nowhere does it state that you cannot digitally enhance your pics. All my photos go through my photo program, they are in most cases cropped, framed, resized & sharpened. Sometimes i may need to fix the contrast to get the colours right because i use a flash most times. Any pic that has had large things removed from it, do not get entered. Pics that have had to have major work honestly are not your best pic to enter are they? I keep the original pic from the camera always, then i have the smaller version for sharing online.

What do you mean a normal verification? A bit hard to get two pics of a fish that doesnt stay still, i thought the verification showed that it was the same fish and that it was mine. To me that is normal.

Honestly once this comp is over (TOTM) i will no longer enter into the comps. Shame i do enjoy them, but this leaves a bad taste for me.

So i'll just enjoy others photos and enjoy the other parts of the forum

Hi Alasse,

What I said in my message to you is that the picture appears to be digitally altered, not that it is digitally altered, and I wasn't trying to accuse you of cheating in any way whatsoever.

I had very limited time to set up the voting and had to make a decision in the time I had. The piece of paper in the pic looks weird, maybe because you stuck it on with water, I'm not sure. It looked to me like it may have been digitally altered or enhanced in some way or other, so I took the decision to disallow it. That's not to say you were cheating in any way.

I've not had much free time recently and as a result haven't been as active on TFF as I would like. Had I been more active on the forum and seen your pic earlier, I would have brought the matter to your attention sooner and maybe you could have provided another pic as further verification. Unfortunately, I didn't have the time this month to do that.

I'm sorry you feel that you have been accused of cheating as this is not what was intended.

I would like to see your fish in the May comp, should you still want to enter.

On a happier note, congratulations on winning TOTM. You are our first member to win this comp more than once. Well done!
